I have a client with a spy hunter that does this (see picture) for about 5 miniutes then it comes to life and played fine until today when it started to jitter even after it came to life. Any idea where to start?

Thanks

Does it play blind?

Usually problems that go away or appear themselves after a machine has been on for a little while have to do with the capacitors warming up.

If it plays blind..my guess is that you need a cap kit on the monitor.

It does not play or accept inputs until it pops on after 5 min or so or warmup. I doubt its the monitor. Anything else?

I had this

on this post back in 2007, however I don't remember what fixed it.
I would reseat all the interconnects and any plugs.
check all the fuses

looks like power supply issues. Start with rebuilding the linear PS board. If that doesn't fix it try replacing the large caps on the power brick.
If you have another linear power board from another mcr game you can try swapping that in to the game and see if it works.

I'm headed to look at it today, I have new ribbon cables and I'll take my meter and check the voltages. The PS was rebuilt with the bob roberts kit but it may need a little more love.

bob roberts has them but they are a PITA

I used SCSI cables, just have to be sure you use the same connector on both sides. They were really cheap off the bay and work great

how so? do they not fit like the originals?

They have an extra row below the row of pins and they have an extra pin on each side.

They're okay; they just make it very easy to hook things up wrong.

And in some cases because there's an extra pin it becomes difficult if not impossible to get them fitted in properly against the metal board supports. I was not able to get one 1 cable replaced because of this.

SO is this fixed???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

So i went out and replaced the cables, no luck there. I reseated every socketed chip on the board, no luck there.. I started to wiggle power cables and the cable on the upper left board was it for the boot up problem.

Now I have some random sprites poping up here and there. I'm gonna take it to a local collector who has one and we are going to do the chip swap thing until we get it.

The cables are just short scsi cables from bob roberts but you have to make some modifications to the sandwich mount to get them to fit. I used a good file and filed one side of the stud down until it fit.
