Can anyone tell me how to get the shifter knob off the shifter lever or how to remove the shifter lever from the shifter assembly. I'm wanting to replace the CPO, and I've got the entire control panel disassembled except for the shifter. The exploded drawing from the manual indicates that the shifter knob threads on, but mine won't come off. Possibly some WD-40 over night will do the trick I don't know. The other end of the shifter lever appears to be pinned in place with a press fit pin with a hollow center. Not sure if I can tap this out. I'd need to go buy some punches. Any help would be appreciated.

Answered my own question. For those who care the knob is indeed threaded onto the shifter shaft, it's just on there really well. Double wrap the knob in a towel and then use pliers to twist it off. After some persuasion it'll come off without damaging the knob.

Thanks very much for figuring this out :) I am at the same point with my spy hunter control panel and was dreading having to tap that roll pin out or worse trying to reinstall it later. You've saved me a huge headache :D

Hey guys, somewhat related- how do you remove the weapons van button from the steering wheel? I took off the plate and saw two tabs where the button pushes through but is there a quick way to remove the lamp portion from the button part?

Which part? The lamp just fits in there. It is keyed, but nothing keeps it in place other than friction. It's a press fit.

Yep thats the part. Thanks-

Do i just pull it straight out? Any twist or locking type deal with it?

Heres the other thing though- somebody must have removed the actual button at one time, because my "Weapons Van" type is upside down. I need to flop the insert that is in there. Is there a way to get at that easily?

Have any of you guys found replacement steering wheel plastic covers? The ribbed plastic that looks like a vacuum cleaner hose.

No, I took the best parts from 2 steering units to make mine. My original plastic pieces had tons of cigarette burns in them.
