Spy Hunter Cockpit / Sit down Restoration

This restoration is awesome! You did a kick ass job. I would love to have a sit down but do not have enough space. I have to settle for my players condition upright.

Thanks for the kind words. I was a long process for sure but rewarding to see the final product come together.

This has been an incredible restoration. I absolutely loved it. It is truly something to be proud of. Thank you for sharing the journey with us.
I do have a request. When you get a chance, can you share some full blown glamor shots for us? It helps us peasants dream of what life would be like if we could own one. 😁

Not a problem. Just waiting for the final stainless steel brackets from my shop then I'll post some full cab pics.

Added some led lighting to the gas pedal. I like it. It's dark as heck when all the lights are off in the arcade. Hard to see the pedal Comes with a remote so I can change it to any other color or brightness. Bearly noticable with the lights on but in the dark it does light up the floor art good.

It's a tough textured vinyl that fairly tick. We'll see how it goes. Doubt in a home environment it will get much use.

Appreciate the kind words.
Fairly tick, huh?

Well, the Mighty Blue Avenger of Justice might have something to say about that!

By the way, the project is just smashing! Your attention to detail is appreciated.

Appreciate the kind words.

Kinda reminds me of the Goonies cabinet project. Just kept adding ideas I had. With that said I think this will be the last mod I add. Everything up to now has been tasteful mods but is a point of no return IMHO. Still I will probably add some expanded foam to the bottom of the seat just to prevent a blow out in case a "healthy" person sits on it. :)

Gotta call my fabrication guy and see if my side brackets are done.

As requested by @Jaydon and a few others. The final piece of the puzzle came in today. The stainless steel cross brackets I had made. The originals were chrome plated and tend to rust. So I went with stainless steel to avoid that issue. Also used SS screws to match the finish. They came out great. Had several sets made so I'll sell a few to others that need them or want the upgrade.

And final for the last push back into the line up she goes. The two OG cockpit cabs together at last. Pole Position for the hard top balls out pedal to the metal thrills. And Spy Hunter for the convertible open top cruising precision driving experience.

Hello again. I wanted to share with everybody on how to install youe MCR boards into the metal PCB plates. This can be a frustrating endeavor if you have every tried one. I'll share the process I use.

First and really the most important step is the identify each mounting plate properly. There are three plates total.

1. Sound plate
2. CPU plate
3. GPU / Video plate

This is also the order they should be stacked from top to bottom.

Here are some pics of each one

Sound board plate - front

Sound board plate - back

CPU board plate - front

There are 8 long machine screw and 4 short ones. The short one are only used to attach the sound board.

Once you have the plates identified place all three in order per above. Then lift the entire stack of all three plate vertically and try to keep them lined up and square to each other. What you are trying to confirm is that all the PCB mounting post line up in-between the plates. If you have them in the proper order they will line up.

The notches in top should all lines up as well.

Look for the PCB mounting post to line up

Now that we have all the mounting plates identified and in the correct order let's get the MCR boards installed.

Lay out some bubbles wrap or something to protect the boards while you work. Lay out your PCB boards as shown.

20251014_102315.jpg

Next grab the sound board plate and flip it over so that the back side is facing up. Then slide it carefully underneath the CPU PCB.

20251014_102439.jpg

Plate and PCB notches should line up on top.

20251014_102442.jpg

Next grab your CPU plate and flip that so the back side is facing up and place that on top your CPU PCB. Line up the mounting post and use 4 long machine screws to secure. Just snug don't over torque the screws.

When your done with this step it should look like this. 20251014_102628.jpg

Next is to flip your GPU / video PCB over (solder side facing up) and place it on top of the plate as shown here.

20251014_102641-jpg.854539

Next take the GPU / video plate and flip that over so the back (flush) side is facing up. Align the PCB mounting holes and secure using the remaining 4 long machine screw. Again, don't overtightened.

Should look like this when done

20251014_102748.jpg

Now carefully flip the entire assembly over and flold the sound board PCB on top.

20251014_102913.jpg

Align the PCB with the mounting holes and use the 4 small machine screws to secure the board.

Everything should line up and you can check by the notches up top.

Hope this helps others.

Restored a Tapper for a buddy and cursed myself for cleaning and recapping the boards when it came time to put it back together. I should have taken photos, but I honestly didn't think it wouldn't be intuitive to slap back together. Big, dumb assumption on my part. It was much easier when dealing with Tron after that fateful night of cursing at the wall. It's a bizarre design.

Another small add on.

Found someone on FBM making these. So I ordered a few and I think it looks great. Let's people know during parties how to coin the game up. Also added one to my Pole Position as it has the same coin up button.
