Here is the goal (this is a pic of Mylstar's super rare NOS seat btw). Please speak up to state your interest.

In addition, there is a question of how this will be made as it will be a choice between a less expensive 2 piece repro (overlapping ridges will be glued together) and a more expensive 1 piece repro.

If people are happy with the 2 piece approach, which will have a nicely done seam that won't be easily noticed, then phineas foo can run them himself (I'm helping him build a new vac forming table that will handle this). Plus there will hardly be any plastic waste. So these two factors will keep the price down.

If people won't be satisfied unless it's a 1 piece approach, then it will mean phineas foo will have to farm out the work and there will be more plastic waste. So that will drive the cost up.

I will let phineas foo comment on prices, price differences, and the specifics on how a 2 piece repro would be done and how it will look. As soon as he does, I would like those who express interest in buying a repro to indicate if they would only buy a 1 piece, a 2 piece, or would buy either way. I don't want to get a bunch of these made and then hear a bunch of "oh, I don't want a 2 piece" comments, so hopefully we can get a general consensus of which direction to go first.

ok the seat your tush sits on would be the area seperated. The last rib right before that would be the split point. The original was run in .060 ABS and I would use .080 ABS to help make sure the parts dont crack as easy. The main area that cracks needs to have a support put behind it made out of wood so it has something to staple to like the rest of the seat. I want to do this to Shanmans so we can figure it out and then make this part of the package as well.

Cost wise if we do the seat in 2 parts will be a ton cheaper. Not sure of price but it would not require an outsource and a minimum run.

If people MUST have a one piece unit to install then I am going to suggest preforming the parts to a mold after forming to make them already precurved so they drop right on. This wont cost anymore but the shipping cost would increase. So is there any way to do them dirt cheap? No.. sadly not. But they would be amazing looking and would make these games POP when you sat down to play it. I will even include a green tree for the new car smell!

I picked up one of these and its pretty sweet. That said, I'd prob be up for 1 to help the cause, depending on the price point.

I would love to see what the two piece would look like all finished and have an idea on the price of each option before I can say which one for sure. Obviously, I would be interested in a single piece, but if the price blows me out of the water a two piece seat would be better than nothing.

Bottom line, depending on price I would be in for one.

I would be in for one not to concerned about which because either would be better than what I have now.

I'd be in for one in either 1 or 2 piece. Depending on cost of course.

Definitely in for at least one. Two piece set up is fine.

I really appreciate the effort and I want to make sure this gets done - i would even go as far as buying two (again, depends on price) (keep a spare).

I am going to say a 2 piece will fall in the $75 range plus shipping.. a one piece will possibly be around $150 + shipping since it will have to be outsourced and they may have a minimum order for their time to reserve the machine. Again, these are estimates so please do not hold these firm in your head.

Good price point (on the two piece). Again in for one, and put me down for two if it helps in anyway to justify making them (although i would only need one - unless i go truly mad and decide to try out picking up another SH cockpit to get that true racing experience (not)).

If you made this in two pieces anyway, why not just build the bottom portion as this is the only part that usually needs replacing. I would think shipping would be cheaper as well. Just a thought.

Good suggestion. PF says that's no problem. I would imagine that the old and new wouldn't match perfectly in terms of texture, color, and/or sheen though. Once PF gets molds made and can pull a sample piece, we can see how closely it matches my seat back. Even if it matches mine well, that still might not guarantee that it would match everyone's.

What if the hollow spot under the seat was filled with a liquid/ plastic material that would support the seat between the wood of the game? If the plastic seat can't flex or move, it shouldn't crack. Great stuff, drywall compound, cement, resin, duraglass, plaster of paris, ect., anything that eliminates the space between the plastic seat and the wood of the game. With this kind of support, would.060 abs be thick enough?

I'd prefer a single piece. If youre gonna do this, get it as close to original is how I feel, But I understand if the economics are a sticky point. I'll support it either way. I paid $225 for one of the nos seats pictured and it was totally worth it.

Knowing price points now, one piece would be ideal. I would take one.

If cost / efficiency / interest warrant two piece, i am in as well.

No, sadly the games were made with cheap materials that were designed to create a need for more sales of broken parts. Kinda like tires. They can make tires that never wear out, but there would be people out of work. The best thing to do is use .090 plastic for it. It is much stronger and can take repeated abuse. What I am going to work with Shanman on is a piece of wood that will not be seen and will contour the angle of the seat to provide support so that the new seats or even good condition old ones will never need to be replaced due to that poor design again. The wood can either be glued in or use a staple/nail gun to mount it and thus providing the support for that area.
