I recently picked up a Spy Hunter upright in great shape. It already had the switching power supply conversion done to it and overall the game play and picture looks perfect. The only problems I'm having is no Peter Gunn music and it seems all other sound effects work but the machine gun sound. Missiles, smoke screen, oil slick , explosions etc work fine just no machine guns.
No flashing LED when put into test mode on the game board. But the LED doesn't light up at all on the cheap squeak board when the game is in normal operation or test mode. (does the game board's LED stay off during game play because mine does?) I am tho getting a crackle thru the left speaker while the harness beside the test switch on the cheap squeak board is removed/reattached so I know a signal of some sort is going thru to the speaker. I checked the left speaker volume knob (made sure the wires are still connected) and no audible change is happening, just silence. The right speaker for sound effects seems to function OK other than the missing machine guns.
I checked the voltages on the switching power supply and everything from what I can tell seems to be in the proper range of what I've read here with other Spy Hunter recommendations.

Would the main culprit be the cheap squeak board itself or one certain component on it for the lack of theme music?

And what should I look into for fixing the lack of machine gun effects?

One other thing I noticed was a possible problem from with the lamp driver board as I was getting some bulbs to stay lit such as "oil slick" for no apparant reason and now after swapping some bulbs around I get no lights at all. I do see some possible blown bulbs tho.

Could these 3 possibly be connected with a voltage issue or am I looking at replacing/repairing 3 boards (cheap squeak, lamp driver and the amp/effects board) ?

Other than these issues, the game and controls play fine.

I had a problem with just the oil slick sounds then just recently all game sounds went out. Still have PG though. When power is first turned on, the green LED on the cheapsqueak should blink a few times than go off. The yellow LED on the sound board stays off during gameplay on mine. The lamp driver board should be getting 12volts at J2 pin 1 coming from connecter 5 pin 9 on the power supply. When a weapon is supposed to be lit the lamp driver should send the 12v through J2 pin 5 to light them up.This powers the weapons lamps. If some lights arent coming up you might first make sure there is continuity between J2 pin 5 and J1 pins 3(Guns), 5(smoke), 6(van), 7(oil), and 8(missile). Connectors must be plugged in. All the game sound signals go through connector J3 pins 1,2,3 on the sound board to the amp board but I'm not sure how to test for their presense on the sound board. Maybe test the voltages at the IC pins for 5v?

the cheap squeak only produces the peter gunn music. The rest of the sounds are produced by the ssio board (top board on the mcr stack). If your only missing one, chances are its somewhere on the ssio.
If you go into test mode, and do the audio channel test, chances are you'll have one channel missing.
Its been awhile since i fixed an ssio, but, i think there are 2 lm3900's on the ssio that i'd suspect first if i wanted to go that far. If not, i do repair them.
