Plugged it in tonight and all I got was a lot of random letters and numbers on the screen and snow out of the speakers that sometimes changed in pitch when parts of the display blinked. Nothing visibly looks wrong on the board except for one capacitor that was so bulged on the end it felt squishy to the touch. The other two look all right but I'm going to change all three for good measure.

What are the chances that this will fix my problem?

And, who does everybody like to get caps from? I need two 8000uf 16v and one 4700uf 25v.

For the record, I did search first. Didn't find to much on Sprint repair and, for some reason, couldn't find any cap resources even though I know it's a well tread subject on here.

Thanks in advance.

Well, if the caps are causing bad voltages there is a good chance this will fix your problem. If your problem is due to something else it will at least give you a strong starting point.

I have rebuilt a few Sprint 2 boards and I bought all of the caps from Mouser.

Thanks, guys!

I tnink I may go with Mouser. Their site is a lot easier to read and understand than other electronic parts sites I found from googling.

And thanks for that link. I have never been to that site before. The underside of my heatsink looks a lot like the one in the picture(the burn/browning I mean) which reminds me, I thought my heatsink was awfully hot considering it was only on for about ten to fifteen minutes, in an unheated basement and the pcb was out of the cage. Or is that how they normally get?

I've hit a snag. I have not been able to find anyone that has a capacitor with an 8000mf. I've checked Mouser and a few others online and in town. Incredibly, I was actually able to find the 4700mf at Radio Shack despite the salesman not knowing what the hell I was talking about.

Does anyone know of a source for these 8000mf capacitors? Or is there a more modern number they go by or possible/suitable replacements?

You don't have to use 8000mfd caps. I just got my Sprint 2 board back and I'll check what caps are on it. I think they are 10000mfd - Barry

I might have spoke too soon. They don't seem to have a 8000mf 16v in axial, however they do have 10000mf 16v. Is it all right to go up in capacitance with these?

I just checked mine and it has 8000mfd's. I have a friends boards here and they have 10000mfd 16 volt and it works fine. - Barry

The extra boards Timberterror has are mine and the 10000uf are fine. These caps are part of the power regulating (filtering) circuit and just need to be adequate enough to control ripple.

So after finally getting around to changing the caps and a solder job that looks like my four year old did it, I have absolutely no change.

Have you measured the voltage on the board? I've had issues with the lm323 voltage regs going bad on Sprint boards. Also, check the large resistor next to the lm323.
