Hi there. I just picked up a sprint 2 today. Has ben sitting in a farmers basement since the mid 90s.

When plugged in it would make sounds, sounds would change with any switch input. Come to find out it was in test mode. I turned off the test switch.

I can now coin it up and it plays blind. Heres the kicker, i have neckglow and the face of the tube does glow a whiteish haze, can tell its on.

There was a 1 amp fuse on the chassis that had blown that i replaced, it has not re-blown.

At this point in time i am kind of stuck. How so i tell if this is a monitor problem or a pcb issue? THere is also some mouse poop/pee/corrosion on the pcb.

Im pretty good with newer games but black and whites are a totally different animal to me.

I had a motorola b&W monitor than had neck glow and just white raster. I recapped it and replaced a couple transistors and it came right up. I would do that first as it's the easiest to do. Do you know which monitor is in it? - Barry

It kind of reminds me of my space invaders monitor that i think is a motorola..

I will get some pics of the innards tomorow for you guys so we can figure it out.

If my space invaders has a simular 19" version with the same connector, could i safely plug that chassis onto this 25 inch tube ane yoke for testing purposes?.. on secomnd thought, i dont think i will be doin that. Si has always worked i dont want to risk it now

Heres some pics...

DUMB QUESTION: is this monitor take composite video???

As in, could i feed this monitor a composite signal from like a dvd player?

If so, could i therotetically tap into the video signal of the game and hook it up to a monitor that takes composite input?
( i have a old commodore monitor that works perfect in such cases as it has hold adjustments etc)

Yes it is composite video. Good idea you can test it with that monitor or any tv with a composite input. I keep a 19" motorola for situations just like this as I know it works.- Barry

SWEET!!!!

Now, onward to figue out which pins are what going to this monitor. I wont speep tonight untill i get at least one game in lol.

On the monitor plug itself. Pin 1 is video - should be violet. Pin 2 is video ground - should be white/green. - Barry

Yep just figured that out via the manual i found inside..

AND....

It works about 95% lol..

One car drives fine but its missing the engine sound(speakers both rigged to the right channel for some reason)

And the other car has all the sounds and drives but its constantly swerving back and fourth even with the opto unplugged, so it looks like i might have boardset issues after all. the steering input does have en effect but its still always drunk/swerving and making the screeching sound as it does it

THe graphics all look perfect, so thats something i guess.

There is some mouse piss/poop and corrosion on the board, so i think the next step will be $20 worth of deoxit and see if mabye that at least fixes my drunken driver issue. I could live with the minor sound issue. Im so afraid to get in there and scrub...

I am hoping i get very lucky. The same guy has ANOTHER supposedly complete sprint 2 for parts in his shed, we just didnt have time to grab it. Even if i can just get the monitor going, to have thing thing around powered on is a cool conversation piece. Its funny how much alike danny sulllivans indy heat is to this game. Frickin copycats!

DO you happen to remember which ones? the bottlecap ones mounted to the frame? One on the lefthand side runs pretty warm to the touch i wonder if thats it.

They were on the chassis. I want to say q1, q2 and q3. They are all in the video amp section. I would try a cap kit first, it's not very many caps but it's cheap and easy. Good to see the board is mostly working. I've had more issues than I can count with mine. It currently working but has had some hiccups. - Barry

wow. I accientally gave it a 24 hour burn test lol..

Still works but the other car only goes right no matter which way the wheel is turned , and the boundries no longer affect the car you can drive all over even over your high scores lol

At this point im going to wait to do anthing else untill i get my parts machine. If i can get the monitor going i will start poking at the other issues.
