I posted this in another section but I thought I would try it here now. I was hoping someone could give some suggestions on an air filter water seperator deal and even a new spray gun. I have a bottom can spray gun now but I read that maybe I shouldnt use it. Thanks.

I have a siphon feed sprayer (bottom mount reservoir) too. I've had horrible luck getting it to spray anything beyond stains without issues. Granted its a lower end gun from Home Depot, but the guys I work with who paint cars say these types of guns are hit and miss. They recommended stepping up to a Devilbiss HVLP gravity feed style gun. I have not taken the plunge and bought one yet, but it looks like a decent Devilbiss kits run are around $140-150. Not the cheapest option, but if you use it 3-4 times it kinda pays for itself.

As far as a dryer setup, check out eastwood.com: http://search.eastwood.com/search?w=dryer. I've bought a couple things from them and have had a good experience.

Thanks. I was looking at those kits and was considering. Man those dryer filters are more than I thought they would be.

Someone has posted that the TCP global packages are a good deal. You can pick up a decent HVLP gun at Harbor Freight for around $20. Always use the plastic inline filter at the very least. A moisture trap at the compressor is a good idea.

Sprayers

Im torn between whitch set to go with the Devilbiss or the TCP. I would like to have a Devilbiss water trap but thats a bit much on my pocket right now. I may have to go with a cheap one for this cab.

I have the blue TCP gun and it works great.
I sprayed water based Sherwin Williams Pro Classic on my DK and it came out smooth as glass.
You don't really need the kit since the gun has changeable tips and needles for different materials.
I use 1.8mm for thicker materials like water based and primers and 1.4mm for oil based enamels.
I would surely buy the TCP over the HF gun any day.
Much better quality at the tip for better atomization.
As with any gun you need to become proficient with it to get good results.
The paint needs to be thinned the right amount and the gun set up properly along with the right spray technique.
If all your going to spray is cabs then the DeVilbiss is overkill.

JimKirk has it right.. for a casual cabinet spraying a devilbiss however nice is way overkill. Any gun will work well for cab painting as long as you clean it and adjust it properly. Also thin the paint to best work with the gun and have the appropriate compressor for the gun.

The cheapest brush in the world looks amazing in the hands of a talented artist.

Guns

Sounds like Ill be going with the TCP gun. If I would have realized I needed it earlier I would have all ready had it here. Im ready to prime and paint.
Thanks for the tips. I really hope I can figure how to get it set just right. Im not a painter at all
On another note Im going to use it to spray my DK using oil bassed Sherwin Williams.

I don't know what the Sherwin Williams is supposed to be thinned with.. should be on the can or their website, maybe mineral spirits? RustOleum is thinned with acetone, so it may vary. Also consider using the Penetrol additive.

Paint

Ill have to read on it and see. I assumed it was acetone but thats good a point. Is Penetrol the stuff that dose somthing with the humidity and temp?
