I am going to paint my Pac Man back to its original yellow color. What gives a better, smoother coat? Spray can or roller/brush?

I was going to go with spraying, but Peale linked to a thread on another site about a guy painting his 69 Charger with a roller. I would like to find a test cab and try that method out. Google - paint car with a roller. There's a car and driver (or similar site) with a how to.

There's a ton of info on this in the past, but to sum it up, you'll never beat a good sprayed on finish (not spray cans, spray gun). Some like the roller thing but i've never been satisfied with the texture when done.

#1 prok ive used every roller there is, nothing gets smooth enough for me...

next time i paint a cab im using real car paint in a air powered cup gun...

Hmmm. I'm going to acquire a cab this fall and paint it and do the whole 9 yards just so I will have some hands-on experience at this stuff.

Not sure it makes sense to buy a sprayer for 1 cab. What's the cheapest sprayer that will do a reasonable job?

Either that or I'll roll it, I guess...

Most tool rental places will rent compressors for under 20 bucks a day and you can buy a cheap paint gun at a pawn shop if you need to (many rental places throw in a paint gun free with compressors if you ask).

Spray it, it's worth it.

You can roll and sand the base coat and use preval system to apply the finish coats, if you don't have a compressor and a spraygun. You will need about 6 of them to do a whole cab, total cost of under 60 bucks for a nice paint job.

I got them at sherman williams and used a 10 off 25 coupon for a pretty good deal.
I am real happy with how it turned out, I first used a small 6 inch roller and no matter what I did I had roller marks.

OK, I'll give it a shot. It's meant to be a learning experience anyway -- might as well learn it the right way.

Look for my "how the heck do I do this?" post here in the Fall. :)

I rolled my Popeye with car paint, sanded smooth, and buffed. I'm happy & surprised at the results. It's been awhile, but the original "Popeye" color was an exact match to some 60's car color. I forgot the make and model, but the paint guy & i were laughing at how exact the match was.
