I'd picked up a pretty beat up--and non-working--Asteroids cocktail about a week ago.
One thing I noticed when I first went to look at the game was that the spot killer didn't seem to be kicking in--there was a faint dot in the very middle of the screen.
Fast forward a week (after general clean-up and game board repair) and I've still got the spot killer light on--I'm missing vertical deflection--but the monitor is still drawing a horizontal line.
Given that, I have a couple of questions/clarifications:
1) I'm assuming it will be fine to debug the monitor with the spot killer not working as-long-as I turn the brightness down. Is that correct? Any chance of hurting any circuitry due to a missing load, etc.?
2) In your past experiences, what's the most likely culprit for not having the spot killer actually work, despite the LED turning on? Bad transistor?
Note: I haven't installed a cap kit or done any general repair work...Wanted to dot my i's and cross my t's on the spot killer before I unnecessarily fried something.
