Yesterday I took a roadtrip from NJ to Indiana (655 miles each way) with my good friend and former college roommate, Dave, to pick up my 40th birthday present, a Warlords cocktail!!
I thought at the last moment that the roadtrip would be scrubbed as I was trying to work out the details on a uship.com bid that would have been about the same cost as the road trip (and saved me 20 hrs or so in the car). Alas, I was unable to get all the details ironed out and in the end, I am glad I didn't. It gave me a chance to catch up with Dave. We had a blast reminiscing and joking around. It turns out, Dave also accompanied me on my first arcade pickup -- Sinistar in North Carolina, 10+ years ago. To let you know what kind of guy Dave is when I proposed the road trip, here was his answer:
"I am at a point in my life where i never say no to anything. Especially an offer like this."
I had known about this Warlods since July 2008 and was biding my time, hoping the owner would decide to sell. I recently
touched base with him, and we were able to work out a deal pretty quickly and now it is all mine!
So, here are some pictures, now that I have it home:
First off, Brent, sign my up on the Warlords cocktail registry, Serial # 1000. I've got to admit, I found it to be a pretty cool discovery to have #1000.
Only 7,755 plays...or is it 107,755?...
Obligatory control panel shots:
Overall, I would say it is not quite as nice as Dewman's recent pickup, but it is in very good shape overall. I am very very happy to have it. Here are the problems:
1) One of the previous owners didn't think to drill out the locks. As a result one of the eye bolts that holds the top down got ripped out, damaging the wood
2) Top glass has scratches. Not sure if they are removeable with some Novis (never tried it) or if they are even noticeable when playing
3) Missing monitor bezel
4) control panels overlays need to be replaced.
5) Table is wobbly. I haven't checked it out, but I'm guessing each set of legs is being held into the table by a single screw.
6) Oh, and it doesn't play either.
On power up, there is some garbage on the screen. Voltages on the AR2 board look okay, game PCB gets 4.92V on the test point. I'll have to dig a bit deeper. Look for a post in the repair section after I have a chance to do more poking around.
7) Monitor has some burn in and may need a cap kit.
Overall, I am not complaining...I am extremely happy to have this in my arcade. I can't wait to get it working to get my kids hooked.
