My Splatterhouse PCB has some issues.

Some graphics are missing/not right and running it in test mode outputs following:

Rom No 5 Error

CFFF
0000
0000
0000

Not having the slightest idea where to look and what to do, I took the chip named S5 out, cleaned the legs and put it in the socket again - but with no luck.

The manual doesn't help me much - so maybe some of you out there have an idea what to do to get the game running smooth again?

Does anyone have en idea where to go from here? Maybe someone could point me in the direction of a more detailed manual to read look into.

Any tips would be highly appreciated. Would like to play some Splatterhouse again :)

I've repaired quite a number of Namco System 1 boards for people over the years - the manuals (for PacMania and Galaga '88 - same hardware) say that that error relates to a faulty ROM at location P10 on the ROM board (ie the larger board of the two). However, don't take that for granted - faults elsewhere can cause similar errors to be displayed.

I would though start by verifying the ROM at P10 against the relevant binary - do you not have access to an EPROM programmer?

Sadly I don't - but if that's the way to go, I may have to buy one. I have some untested PCBs in storage, which also have to be tested and maybe repaired in some way - so an EPROM programmer might not be a bad idea.

An EPROM programmer is certainly a wise investment if you have a lot of boards and intend to repair them yourself.

If you decide to send away for the board for repair then you'll find a few repairers hang out here (if you're in the States). I'm in the UK and also repair boards.

I'm from Denmark, and don't know anyone here in the country who repair boards - so it's either repair it myself or send abroad. It would maybe be a wise choice to try learning som repair myself, with me having loads of boards that maybe needs repair.

Could you point me in the direction of a good value for money programmer?

Regarding a programmer - what do you want to spend?

What type of EPROMS do you want to program?

I'm sure there's a few threads on this board about programmers, a search should find them. :)
