I'm looking for a new pin. Iv'e considered Iron Man, thanks for the replies on that thread. Wife and Kids suggested Spider Man. No real attachment to either of these by me. Any thoughts on Spider Man. For that matter, anyone think than any of the Sterns that are currently available new in a box are either a real standout or a real turd?

I love spiderman, we have about 400 plays on it in the last month. I have had it a coupe of months now and it smokes Ironman in my opinion. Be luck to land one, the sold out fast last time. good luck, you cannot go wrong.

I can get you a Spiderman NIB. If you want to talk about it shoot me a pm. They are re-running them. Cost is a bit more then before but they are back. Theres only like 4 that are unaccounted for at Stern. They will run some more though I think at the end of November. The new ones are exactly the same except for 2 things. They have 2 rods on the bottom now to support the playfield instead of the 2 flat metal bar, and now I cant think of the second thing. Something that was metal has been changed to plastic. Those are the only 2 things different from what they told me. I can find out what the second thing is tomorrow with a phone call.

Apron is now plastic. I'll be in the market for a used one soon. Almost there with the sale of my Tron and Joust this last month.

SM is awesome! I've only had it 3 or so weeks so I'm still in the honey moon phase but it's a great game. The rules are kinda dumb on paper, shoot the villians until the mode activates, then shoot them some more, but in reality it works great because you always have something to shoot for.

I get to Battle Royal a lot, but never beat the game. The spider sense shot is fun, the vennom shot is really hard, and the doc ock shot is great. The game has wonderful flow, and a really great light show. Adding the shaker motor to this game is a no brainer. I have LEDs in mine and a pinball pro sub. I don't know if I'd do the sub again, but the LEDs look great if you don't mind some ghosting.

I love the art on the cab and I think the back box looks great too. The game is just fun. The flow, the shots, the sounds, the lights, the center post, everything just works.

In terms of the NIB debate, I don't really care either way. Posts, rails, plastic, metal, it's just not that big a deal to me. What is a big deal is the money I saved. I saved $1,200 off NIB and got a $175 shaker motor, $160 worth of LEDs and $99 sub upgrade.

If you have any specific questions let me know!

So you're completely ignoring the "white" modes? THAT'S where the real fun and points are....

-Shoot all the white arrows
-They all start flashing - your next "white" shot will become a multiplier
-Shoot the left or right orbit to start the white mode (Rescue MJ, Daily Bugle, Bonesaw, Amazing Spider-Man, New Goblin).
-If you FINISH the mode, you get to choose another multiplier!

There's also Black Suit Multiball!

Finish all the villain modes and white modes, and you can play the wizard mode - Super Hero. I've only done that twice.

Anyway - Spider-Man is an "A" game....just awesome on all levels. Iron Man is great, too though....I'd never sell either of them. If I had to compare, I'd have to say Spidey is a better game, but Iron Man might be more fun!

spidy

heres a klov special
i have one in reno nv that is huo
red, not a scratch on it, has about 200 plays
came out of a multi million dollar home where the 1st owner paid like 6k for it
would like 4300 fir it

can anyone explain to me what a shaker motor is?

it makes the entire pin "shake" at certain times during gameplay....for instance, my JP "shakes" when the t-rex eats the pinball and at various other times during gameplay.

IMO, it adds to the experience............but to be honest, JP is the only pin i've played in person with a shaker motor.

Yeah, shakers are awesome - but the choreography of shaker programming is really amazing on Spider-Man and Iron Man. With Spidey, you get "growling" shakes when you hit Venom, "impact" shakes when you hit Sandman, big massive rumbles when you defeat Sandman. Subtle "hit" shakes when you hit Goblin targets or make combos. Shakes with Doc Ock's experiement explosions, etc. Iron Man rumbles with all the gunfire, Iron Monger's ground bursts, hits, explosions....it's choreographed w/ Whiplash's whips. Iron Man's shaker really makes the game feel like an amusement park ride....it's awesome, and essential if you have the game, IMO!

I guess Spiderman is ok...... for a Gottlieb anyway. I had only seen a picture of one and we never bought any. My boss at the time was having so much trouble with Gottlieb pinball machines that he stopped buying all Gottliebs.

um,,,,stern spidey...

Spidey is awesome.. Someone mentioned shooting the white spideys. They are correct that there are some great modes that way.. My favorite is Bonesaw.. "Bonesaw's Readyyyyy!!!!

I've played both Spidey and IM with shakers, and it definitely makes the game more fun. If I were to purchase either of those machines, I'd add a shaker without hesitation.

I've had mine a year now and can't say I would part with it anytime soon. It's a fun game with lot's to do. The rules are solid, although not deep like TSPP or LOTR. There is always something to shoot for though, and lot's of little things to shoot for, like collecting the most spiders, or shooting the most combo's in a game.

Guests seem to love it, and my father-in-law really enjoys it. It's a pretty approachable game for people that don't play a lot of pinball or don't really care about learning how to play properly as far as rules and such go.

I got lucky with mine last year and found a NIB one from 2007 that the owner never opened so I got it for cheaper then the current prices. You might be able to find a HUO one or a lightly routed one and save yourself a few bucks.

Spider-Man is probably Steve Ritchie's single best effort. I know that is saying a lot, but it's true in my opinion. If you take a look at his entire portfolio, I'd be hard pressed to choose any game ahead of Spider-Man. The game flows really well, it has some fun modes, the sounds are great, and the light show is strong. The game isn't perfect, but if you're a fan of flow, this is as good as it gets.

I've owned several Steve Ritchie games and oddly enough this is the only one I've kept. I don't dislike his other games, but this feels the most complete. STTNG is probably a bit more varied, but I don't like how that one stops play as often as it does, and games like BK/BK2000, The Getaway, etc. don't offer enough shot variety in comparison to Spider-Man.

SM has consistent fast flow to it. If this is one thing you don't like on a pin then don't buy SM. Otherwise the audio package is excellent, the DMD animations and so forth were also well done. A big bonus is no one is screaming about it needing a software update due to bugs/issues.
SM is a solid machine all the way around. Not really anything bad can be said it about it IMHO.

Out of all of the games I have owned in the past 8 years this is the only game I play all the time. I had close to 600 games within the first month of ownership. Next to LOTR this is Stern's best game ever made.
