SpeedyCorky's Restoration thread: Race Drivin'

well i gave my PCB with the seat control transistors to a local electronics shop, to have them change out the transistor to hopefully get the seat magnet working again. after it sat there for 2 months with not action, i went and got it back and got my $ back....

so got home and just directly wired up the seat magnet with 5 volts from the power supply; put it thru the stock regular seat movement switch, so now the magnet is ALWAYS on, except when you push the button. so it works now, works enough.

but then i realized that the pin that the seat swivles on with the magnetic (connects the seat part, to the magnetic part) was busted/broken. so i STILL dont have a fully functioning seat!!! so in a few days i'll get a friend over here and help me tilt the machine so i can fix the seat pin, and have a functional seat magnet - FINALLY!

in the meantime, i've cleaned up the petals, installed some interior LED lights, and other fun stuff. more pics to come in the next couple weeks, once i get the seat fixed and the floor installed. going to CAX for sure gave me some motivation!

OK a bit more than a couple weeks... but i had to move, and that takes time...

but yea, finally made some good steps!

got ALL the cockpit LEDs installed, and all the carpet replaced... cleaned up the machine too. this is how it looks in low light

in a more lit area, the red LEDs dont show quite as much.

and more light

a cool little custom mod

so if you are a dork and play for an hour on end with this game... and crash a lot, and are getting kinda old like me; or hell, maybe if you are just bored in your garage and wanna do a fun mod to your arcade game, well then turning the ignition key can start to get a bit laborious - the spring on that thing is pretty strong! so i installed the illuminated green push-button. pressing the button is the same as turning the ignition key. the key is still functional; so you can choose whichever one you want.

i got the idea of a push-button start when i went to CAX and played Hard Drivin' Airborne; in that game, it had a *installed from factory* push button for the ignition. i thought it was a cool idea, and wanted to add to my machine - but didnt wanna lose the original turn key feature as well. thankfully, i was juuusttt barely smart enough to figure out the wiring to get it all to work. its just a momentary push button kinda switch, that is always off, unless depressed.

seeing the PCBs so dirty, i broke down and used a toothbrush to carefully clean them. wow do they look a lot better

All cleaned up, new carpet, and ready to play!!! :)
Now all i gotta do is get a crew of my buddies over here to help me move this thing from my garage to my living room

geeeezzzzz tough crowd! or maybe non-existent crowd! well good thing i have this little do-dad called "internal motivation" hahaha

i had a big party the other weekend, and it took 8 guys, 2 ropes, and 1 big piece of plywood to move this machine from my downstairs garage, up to my living room! lets say my fiancee is very, um, understanding hahahha

but yea, now its outta my garage, and on display, and sits in a semi-heated room, so it will get more play now. i was screwing around with how to drift; pretty fun stuff once you get the hang of it; soon enough i'll post a YouTube video of me drifting, and of me driving the super stunt track

Good job!! I hvae been watching your thread the whole time. I really wish more people would repro parts and art for these. I have always loved this game and will own the compact version once I get a chance to go pick it up. Can't wait!!!

Good resto, but I would take away those extra lights ;)

Watching to your post brings to my memory that a Race Drivin' Upright is in my dad's garage waiting to be restored :)
