I am looking at a Special Criminal Investigation somewhat locally, and I am a bit on the fence now after looking in MAME. I remember liking Chase HQ, and S.C.I. feels like Outrun with a gun. I never played a real S.C.I. cabinet. In MAME though, the actual driving part felt...crappy. I only played the 1st level and there was zero challenge to the actual driving part.

Another reason I am on the fence is because there is a sight unseen Outrun in my neck of the woods I need to go look at.

I would appreciate any thoughts opinions on S.C.I, and whether you would take S.C.I. over Outrun.

The S.C.I. is allegedly in fully working order and in excellent condition. The outrun may or may not be a junker, but it allegedly works with intermittent resets (probably a simple PS issue). Outrun will cost less.

I remember S.C.I. being sub-par. I don't remember a lot about it other than the fact that I wasn't willing to pump more quarters in to it.

+1 the game really kinda sucks, I would go for the Out Run and hope for the best. I have a 5v power block set up listed some place in the for sale section.

TAITO never could make a good driving game.
SCI is neat for a play or two, that's it.
Not something you'd want in your house, I'd think.

Wow, I actually liked SCI. As to a Racing game.. yes, it sucks. The fun of the game (whole point of the game) is to shoot the hell out of the car and smack into it. Any game with forcefeedback gets a bonus point on my scorecard :)

It had feedback? Maybe a kicker/knocker?
I thought the only "neat" thing it had was a separate volume
control for the damn siren sound.

I t was a kicker/knocker.. but I still count it as force feedback in general. Again, the game was not designed as a true racing game. I thought it was a good concept on the idea. You have to consider the era the game was released.. it was a damn good game.

No different than Double Dragon.. it was the ultimate game in that era, but now it is just another kick/punch game dime by the dozen. Yes, I found myself disappointed with Double Dragon playing it NOW. As a teen, it was a blast.

If SCI is anything like Chase HQ, I'd go for the OutRun (although you might have a suicide battery to deal with). I had a Miami Vice (I mean Chase HQ) game for awhile, cool game, but I had it beat like the third time I played it, and every time after that, theres only 5 levels. If SCI has "no challenge" also, go for the outRun.

I have both and would say hands down the Out-Run! is a better investment. SCI will probably be the first one out of the game room when something better comes in. Though all will not be lost for those people that like the game because if it comes out of my gameroom it will be heading to Funspot.

OUTRUN. Is your best choise by far

Outrun is a superdeluxe game, super graphx and scrolling, music, gameplay.

SCI is fun, just fun, the upright version is nice cause it is not so big and heavy and has nice artwork.

SCI is a nice game that has entertainment value and nothing more, it's like been there, done that. NEXT.
