Speaker replacement or repair

Replacement speakers are cheap if you go to your local car stereo shop and ask to purchase original automotive factory speakers that they have piles of in the back of their shop (a lot of people get their new vehicles equipped with better sound systems and don't keep the original factory speakers). In any case, just make sure you send the right amount of Ohms to your new speaker (ie. 4 or 8 is common). The stereo shop could probably add resistors to the speakers for you so you left with the right setup.

I was sort of leaning towards repair actually. I've started looking up the process of replaceing the paper cone on a speaker..doesn't look too hard.

What size is the speaker? I have a couple of speakers from parted out cabs, if I have what you need you can have it for cost of shipping.

Its an 8"... not sure of the ohm rating.

Thanks!

You can check the ohm rating with a multimeter.

I'd replace it personally... unless you are tying to keep it original. There are bound to be original speakers out there for sale unless you want to use repairing your speaker as a learning exercise.

I paid $9 for a new and much better 8" speaker. I wouldn't waste time on trying to repair an original speaker as their not worth it.

a bit of tissue paper and a dab of paint to patch the hole - or just change the speaker.

the recycled car stereo speaker sounds good.

yeah..I see your point.... just replace it.

(As a purist) Unless this machine was 100% authentic AND MINT I wouldn't even consider trying to fix a speaker. New speakers are dirt cheap and MUCH higher quality than that stock junkers you have.

That's a cool pin - so make it even cooler and upgrade the audio system. If you're like me and play at low volumes then you won't see/hear as much of a benefit but still worth at a minimum running to Walmart and buying a NEW set of speakers. My .02

Let me know the price to ship to 30815. I have a feeling though..Its just going to be easier and cheaper to find a replacement from a stereo shop. I have seen the speaker upgrade kit thats out there...not sure if I want to spend that much though.

Bob Roberts sells replacement speakers -- have you looked there?

Ok no problem..I am from Columbia and have driven to Marcos before. I'll just get one when I'm up there next weekend.

You can get much better deals and higher quality products ordering from parts-express.com.

The standard speaker in the bottom of WMS cabs is a 6". They have 6" subwoofers for about $6 that are really nice quality. I replaced all the speakers in my systems for about $30 in parts and the sound quality if far superior now.
