I have Final Fight in a dynamo cab which is pre-cut to mount 2 speakers on opposite sides of the overhang. Currently I have only 1 speaker mounted on the left, but would like to add a second one on the right (1 for each side). The current speaker is an 8ohm 5watt max speaker. I found a 4" 6ohm lying around with an 'unmarked wattage' that I'd like to use if it's safe. Can this be done safely in series or paralell?

Also I guess these questions for rule of thumbs would help me and anyone searching the threads. . .

1)Is there a general safe range of ohm/wattage for arcade setups? For example, if you have a conversion cab where the manual does not list a required speaker ohm, what do you do?

2)What ohm/wattage level is considered dangerous?

3)Can you mix different ohm/wattage speakers safely?

4)Is there a safe +/- level of tolerance on speaker ohms?

5)Does it make difference regarding safety if you paralell or series on an arcade setup?

6)On a game with a seperate mounted soundboard, can you run the game safely or is it possible to run the game without it? (For example: If you want to test/play a game while you have a soundboard removed for repairs)

Thanks

I'd like to know this also. As I had a game with bad 8ohm speakers and replaced them with the only ones I could find laying around, 4ohm speakers. The sound section went out shortly there after. Was it the 4ohm speakers or just coincidence?

It was the 4 OHM speakers that caused it most likely. E over I R. Learn it, live it.

Not really safe to mix n match, you shouldnt go below the rated resistance. Above should be fine, itll just be quiet.

As for parallel or serial, Id think it wouldnt matter for an arcade setup as long as the wires are somewhat short, however wouldnt you normally want to hook it up for stereo on the games that support it? :).

And for running it w/o the sound board, dunno - i guess itd depend on the game, but unless there is a sense line or anything coming back in the circuit id assume it wouldnt bother it...
