I just listed a couple of item locally on Craigslist and got this message......."Is this item still available for sale ?"

nothing else...no name, just that question.

I reply in like manner with a simple "Yes...both games are still available, your the first to reply"

he replies back with this........"Hello,

Thanks for the prompt response to my inquiry., just to let you know that am okay
with the condition and price of the item, am ready for its purchase
and my form of payment we be certified check mail to you via express
delivery.

I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the pick up money will be
included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable pick up company
to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location after
check has been cashed,as i have other properties to be moved alongside
with yours.

I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my work
frame that might not be possible, but if you have the pics, might want
to have a good look. Please do get back to me with your full name and
address including your cell and land number so i can make out
payment.

Thanks and God bless. "

still no name or anything........SPAM? Just found it really odd.

A total spam scam.

The funniest part is: "I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my work frame that might not be possible..."

I thought you were selling a game and not advertising that someone died? :)

What I want to know is why there is even a question as to if this were spam or not. I'm not trying to rag on the OP or anything... I just see these "is this spam?" threads all the time on a number of forums. Is it really not obvious?

I actually got the "Is this item still available for sale?" email on something I am selling the other day. It was deleted immediately because it's either spam or it's someone who is obviously too lazy to write a real email to me which more than likely also means that they would end up flaking on me anyways.

CL has always had these spammers.

Any email that just says is it still avaliable, gets deleted for me.

I got two replies to both games I was selling this weekend on CL and they both said.....I WANT THIS!!!!! I was like, ooookay? the email said nothing else. hahaha

this is not spam, this is a scam. spam would be simply harvesting your e-mail for sale on a list, but they are actively trying to scam you, steal your money or items.

there are a few different ways they can do this; the "certified check" will be fraudulent, and chances are good they'll make it out for more than your asking price (they'll have a good excuse why) and ask for you to send them the difference via Western Union. sometimes they'll ask for a check routing number to access your bank account directly.

SPAM... I've been reporting SPAM for so long, I can recognize it when I see it. I posted some TRS-80 monitors and on both I got the reply (twice each) "Can I pick this up tomorrow?" with the EXACT same time stamp. I deleted them without a thought.

I got the exact same (i mean copy/paste) response when i listed the virtua fighter on craigslist a few months ago. I think if they don't mention the item, or describe it in any way, then something's fishy.

Something I always do on craigslist is add this text in my ad...

"If this posting is still viewable, the item is still available for sale, there is no need to e-mail and ask. Any such e-mails will simply be deleted."

It helps expedite the sale process and you can avoid the spam.

Here's what I usually respond with.
Dear scammer,
Your mother must be so proud to have raised a scamming piece of shit like you. May cancer infest your sorry ass and cause you to die a slow and painful death. Come to think about it, that would be too good for you.
