NEW Space Zap

I saw this one pop up too, but had too many other projects to respond to it. Love to see it go to a good collector and someone that appreciates these. There was another Space Zap that got bought recently in Washington in last 6 months, and was just parted out.

Yeah, I was really bummed about that game. I was in contact with the seller and was close to making a deal, but sold it to someone closer who parted it out to make a multi. Goddamn shame.

I fixed sound on mine last night, C1 on the audio amp was shorted and had blown a fuse. Everything else checked out fine. Had to replace the fuse block, since one of the holders broke off. That's all done, I cleaned the tube face, overlay, and bezel and put it all back together.

Played a few games last night. Something about this game really does it for me. Dirt simple, frantic, awesome cabinet.

Haven't gotten anywhere near 200k yet, but I can consistently put up 100k.

Got the new lamps for the marquee yesterday, and it's flashing like it should now.

Anyone here ever the Game-a-Tron Space Zap in person?

What was the deal with this thing? Did Game-a-Tron license it to Midway, or the other way around?

I've got one of the Game-A-Tron Space Zaps. I think Brian Jones had one at one time as well, that he completely restored.

I'd love to see some photos, if you've got some. All the google image results are for the Midway cabs.

There's a Game-A-Tron Space Zap at Daytona Arcade Musuem, FL.

I played it in November and took a pic:

It is fundamentally the same game, although I recall the graphics were slightly different. The things shooting at your base were saucers, and there were no flying things during the breaks in the action - it just kept going. Scoring seemed lower too. I can only assume that Midway added elements to the game before they released it.

Anyway, it's there, and playable. (Oh and this cab belonged to Brian Jones he tells me)

Found this marquee pic too:

Not sure where this is from - either a different style upright or cabaret?

WOW, that's a hell of a bezel, it really pops. Interesting that it only has a single speaker, while the flyer has two. The board generates stereo audio, but only the Midway cocktail has real stereo. Too bad there's nowhere to put a second speaker.

The "marquee" looks like it might have been cut from an original bezel.

Very few differences in the art but the marquee doesn't feel cut, at least in looking for irregularities in the edges. What is noticeable are the color differences.

So it has flying saucers instead of klingon birds of prey and no attach satellites. I think I like the Midway version better form the description of the game play. But I really like that illuminated button on the control panel.

Your Midway bezel will pop more under a black light. I have a SZ video on my channel somewhere showcasing that.

Yeah, I saw that. Personally not a fan of it. Maybe if you could put them behind the bezel. Or have chase lights like on the Atari Akka Arrh proto game.

Sold. Kapoot. Why nobody ever bother to take nice & simple screenshot to preserve?

Anyways...

Welcome to the Space Zap club!
I agree, SZ is midway between a cabaret and a regular stand-up and def on the light side.

Welcome to the Space Zap Club!!

i'm in da club too! yeah gimme sum dat 50 cent!

surprised yer not already on your way to cleveland. it's not far from you. simple easy
short drive... and well worth it. $250 for that space zap is 1000% worth it. i would buy
this myself, but i'm in serious need of doubling my floor space so i can keep endlessly
buying more and more and more games! maybe i need 3 more storage units, maybe a
4,000sq ft church rectory or a 10,000sq ft ghetto-licious warehouse in detroit! :)
