I haven't been buying much for the last year or two, because I have most of the games I really want and am running out of space. But, I have been wanting a Space Zap for a long time, and finally scored an upright for $500 last Monday. It's complete and in good shape, though the bottom is chipped up a bit due to not having leg levelers installed. I'm going to patch that up and paint to match, should be easy due to the simple side art.

It had a DRAM issue, but fired right up after I swapped in a spare RAM card. Audio is currently out, because the bypass cap on the audio PCB is shorted, which popped a fuse in the bottom of the cabinet. I have a few parts coming, need to clean out some gunk from the monitor & overlay, then I think this is 100%.

Cabarets are my favorite, but I like the upright Space Zap a lot more than the mini. I like that it's a plywood cab, and definitely on the small side for an upright -- it reminds me of Wizard of Wor like that. And the effect of the mirror, flashing marquee, and plex sides is awesome.

I saw that there was also a version manufactured by Game-a-Tron, in a Space Invaders style cabinet. Has anyone ever seen one of those?

Welcome to the Space Zap club!
I agree, SZ is midway between a cabaret and a regular stand-up and def on the light side.

Congrats!! Definitely on my short list and agree the upright cab is justified AND kicks was. Didn't know they were plywood cabs. Seems midway was over the place on cab construction including gorf being half and half.

Congrats! I have a full size upright with the mirror and it's really an amazing looking and fun machine. It was working last year but something failed on one of the boards. Unfortunately I can't find anyone who evaluates these boards. If anyone knows, please send them my way...I'd really like to get it up and running again. Thanks!

we had a working one FS for $200 a couple months back in the DC area ... someone got lucky i guess

Miss mine. Sold it for less a few years ago and it was a working beauty. Can't believe how much they have shot up in value. Same story with my Turbo mini. I'd really like that one back.

I have one and I have stacks of boards to fix for the card rack system. Are you missing the monitor overlay looks very black and white in the center of the screen.

Should look more like this

It's there, but dirty and/or faded. I haven't gotten in there to clean everything up yet. Your photo is just way too bright.

I have a cocktail space zap and found an upright at a garage sale. The upright was awesome and yes a little smaller. It's cool because it has a flat CP. Perfect for holding a beer while you play. I sold it back to a family member from the garage sale I bought it from. It turned out that his mothers dad was an old operator and had brought it home when she was a child. The Son and dad had found me because I'm all over my city looking for and fixing games. The son asked to buy the game back for his mother. How could I say no. LOL. Very cool looking game!!!! If I didn't have the cocktail It would have been even harder to sell back to them.

Would love a cocktail of the game I was lucky to get my upright and I had to piece that together part by part. Monitor was a space invaders monitor and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the screen would never enlarge. After a few months I had acquired another Space invaders tube and swapped it in to see if it worked. Guess what happened the picture was fine something was wrong with the first tube or most likely someone fried the yoke.

I think that overlay would look awesome on an Asteroids. Anyone got a spare?

They are not easy to find I had a hell of a time getting one for mine.

Love Space Zap! Gets so fast around 200K. One of my favorite games to play every October at Grinkfest.
