I hope to be picking up my latest freebie tomorrow, a Space Shuttle.
Word is the playfield is in pretty poor shape but the game was functional when it was taken out of this guy's basement a few months ago.

Any special things I should be looking for/at when going over this thing?
I see that the playfield repro is in pre-order just behind the other playfield I want, Cyclone :)

Any showstopper unobtainable parts?

The main ramp is impossible to find it seems. I had to repair mine.

Has anyone reproduced the shuttle toy? Mine's pretty beat.

Not that I know of. The shuttle itself is not hard to find. You could take your original and repaint it. Decals are around and can be purchased. Ed Cheung on RGP (www.edcheung.com) made a set and I believe he sells them.

I would skip an overlay and just wait for the repro to be done.

I just took a look at the playfield this morning, it's worn down past the paint in the center like many of the non-mylared ones so it looks like a new or new-ish playfield is in my future.
I should have some pics of the cabinet tonight, I only had my car this morning and only had room for the backbox in my back seat :)

Plastics were great though and even the ramps looked perfect so it looks like a playfield is all that I'll need (provided it still operates properly like they said)

I think Ed produced a vacuum mold for making new shuttles. Not sure if he plans on reproing them or not.

Was there ever an overlay though?
If I'm going to wait a couple years for a repro playfield I don't mind dropping a couple hundred to patch it up temporarily since the playfield will get tossed when the repro arrives anyway :)

I would wait for the reproduction personally. IIRC it's in pre-order from classic playfields.

Yes I know that there were overlays available at some point.

Installing an overlay is going to be a ton of work to end up with a good result. It's something that's really easy to make look like crap.

Describes the overlay project. You could contact Ed and see if he has/is going to get any more.

Honestly, you might want to troll Ebay for a 'better than you've got' playfield. I picked one up a few years back for $75 + shipping, and it's not in bad shape. If I get around to installing it soon, I'll probably be selling my older (still not as bad as your sounds) one.
