Space shuttle not kicking out ball

It doesn't always like kicking the ball into play unless i fiddle with the switch in the ball return. I've got 3 balls in the machine. I assume this means the switch is bad. Unless it just needs to be tweaked or something. Thought I would ask before I start replacing things for no reason that and its cold and im lazy...
 
Pull out the balls, put up the playfield, and see if the levers in the trough/drain switches are making consistent contact when there should be a ball there. Any one of those three not sensing a ball could cause it to not want to start the game.
 
Space Shuttle is a System 9 machine. On the coin door, press the Auto/Manual button so it is down. Then press the Advance button to enter the diagnostic tests (it should start with the display test and show 1111111 on the displays. Press the Auto/Manual button so it is up. Then press the Advance button 4 more times. That should get you to the switch edges test. Remove the balls and manually press the switch in question to see if it registers. Then clean and look over the switch for any problems.
