I just picked up a Williams space shuttle that will not boot up by itself. When I turn the power on some of the light come on, but nothing more no matter how long I let it sit. If I press switch 1 on the main pcb it will boot up into attract mode and I can coin up and play a full game. The score displays are non working so I don't know what the pin is doing when I first turn it on.....

Does anyone even know where to start on this one? I would like to get the displays going, but don't want to waste money on parts that I don't need. I traced the 4 wires that power the pcb that runs the displays back to the power supply and that plug looks burnt.

Sounds to me that it is powering on directly into test mode. Have you replaced the batteries? When I got mine all the displays were out as well, turned out to be the power supply.

It turned out that the game is booting into test mode because of a battery issue. When I power on and then quickly recycle the power the game boots into attract mode. I'm going to attempt to install a remote battery holder as the original one is highly corroded.

How did you test your power supply to find out that it was bad? The game works well minus the score and credit displays........is the display driver board ran off of high voltage?

Yes, there are two pins on the power supply that generate +100v and -100v power for the plasma displays.

That particular connector is the same from system 6 all the way to early system 11, so you can use the schematic at www.firepowerpinball.com to identify where the +/- 100v location is.

Without looking at it and pulling the schematics out, I think it is the top 10 or 11 pin connector on the power supply. If I get a chance I will pull it out and check.

well, I finally put a remote battery pack on so the game boots up correctly, thanks for your help guys. I investigated the HV a little bit more and I realized that the 1/4 A F1 fuse was blown. I don't have a new fuse so It will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm hoping that if I unplug the display pcb that F1 won't blow pointing to a problem with the display pcb....

Is my thinking correct?

I'm going to go ahead and rebuild the hv section of the power supply by replacing c1 and c3... is there anything else that I want to replace while I'm in there or is there a complete rebuild kit that I can buy from somewhere.

I also looked up how to test the udn chips on the display pcb and mine checks out fine. I'm finding most of this information on pinwiki...... does anyone else know what could be causing my blown f1 fuse?

to recapp it is blowing when the display isn't plugged in...
everything else works great on the pin as far as I can tell

I finally got around to putting in the cap kit and HV repair kit that I got from Great Planes Electronics and I'm still getting a blown f1 fuse on start up. I followed the directions to a tee and have double checked my work several times........ what am I missing here?

Can anyone point me in the right direct to try to get my score displays working. BTW, the fuse blows with the display pcb plugged in and unplugged.

I'm about to just order a new ps if I can't fix this in a couple of days.
