Space Shuttle always ejects two balls (at game start, ball #2, and ball #3)

This appears to be a common and simple problem, but most of the other machines found in this search are much newer titles. Just wondering if there are any differences in what I am looking for here. I'll check the trough, and switches around there...anything else?

I had this problem when I bought my RFM. My problem turned out to be there was one too many balls in the machine. Removed one ball and all worked as it should.

Sounds like one of the ball trough switches is stuck on somehow. I'm not entirely sure this is accurate, but I think the pinball is like this at idle (say if this is a 3-ball game):

<trough 1 sw = closed> <trough 2 sw = closed> <trough 3 sw = closed>

Then you coin up and press start. It should eject one ball and then the game expects to see:

<trough 1 sw = open> <trough 2 sw = closed> <trough 3 sw = closed>

But let's suppose trough 1 switch is stuck closed due to a short or the switch being stuck in. The game still sees:

<trough 1 sw = closed> <trough 2 sw = closed> <trough 3 sw = closed>

As a result the pin thinks the ball did not eject and it tries again resulting in two balls being ejected and this scenario:

<trough 1 sw = closed> <trough 2 sw = open> <trough 3 sw = closed>

At this point the pin's software probably knows it fucked up (in a manner of speaking) and does not eject another ball.

Or, yeah, same scenario as above if you have 4 balls in a 3 ball game like previous poster said lol. :D

Time to bust out a continuity tester and start testing the trough switches. If that is not the issue then... well... God help you. :D

Sorry to hear this....it didnt have this problem before I sold it to you.

Are you playing this in your non-heated, non-insulated garage? If so I cant help you, because the cold and condensation is not good for these games.

Check the switches in the trough like others said... driving a game 2 hours with bumps can alter stuff.
Good luck

I fixed this--there was a ball hidden somewhere in the playfield that I jarred loose during a game. I assumed the three balls given to me to be installed were all that were in there. Works fine now.

Lol. When I bought the game and brought it home, I could not find the third ball to save my life!
So, I added the third ball in and it played fine. Glad you got it fixed.

Hell yes for easy fixes. ;)

My Pinbot actually had a third ball (only requires 2) stuck under a superfluous plastic near the spiral ramp. God only knows how the hell it got back there... my best guess is that it catapulted OFF the spiral ramp, or was lost when someone didn't remove it during a move.
