I have a Space Panic that has some issue. I have re-seated all of the ROMs and check the connectors. Has anyone seen this problem? I feel like it may be a power supply issue, because it was covered in rat crap. It had two blown diodes with the stripes barely visible. I replaced the diodes. I don't know what the voltages should be or even where to test them. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: For some reason I can't upload the closeup. Says "upload failed".

First off, can you describe the problem? I haven't played that game, is that not the proper attract screen? If the game isn't booting up properly, it's obviously like you said the board or the power supply, you can always measure power supply voltages at the pcb's edge connector. Here's a copy of the manual:

http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/ARCADE/S-Z/Space Panic [Op-Maint-Serv]%20[English].pdf

It's kind of a crappy scan, but if yours has the same power supply in the bottom that my universal games do, there are actual status lights to tell you if the voltages are correct! If you look at the power supply, there's a light for the 5V, etc., it'll be red and I believe there are about 4 of them. See if any of those LED's aren't on, etc.

Sorry about that. I've never seen Space Panic either. The screen that you see is static. It just stays there all the time and if you flip a coin lever all you get is a constant tone that turns off when the coin switch is released. Thanks for posting the manual. However, that manual doesn't quite match my game. Mine is made by Universal, but it has two game boards that are piggy backed and connected with ribbon cables and I don't have the sound card that they describe. It may be a prototype Space Panic, because the Boards have lots of jumpers run from one place to another.

Not sure what you have as I have never seen one like it. I have a Space Panic which I assume is the dedicated game or maybe a Japanese version. I think I have seen one in another type cabinet before but that might have been a conversion. Here's some pictures of mine. I don't have any pictures of the inside but I did recap the monitor and rebuilt the power supply. You can read about it on my web page.

Also note I found out mine doesn't have the original bezel but it doesn't look to bad. Hope to find the correct one some day. Here's a few pictures.

I haven't seen one in years, but I do remember playing it as a kid back in the day. Can't help with cabinet types though...wasn't paying attention to that stuff then ;)

I believe it is a Space Panic. The burn-in on the monitor looks like it anyway. It is only a 13" monitor though. It's very curious that no one has ever seen this one before. I thought it was just a junk cabinet. Now I'm thinking maybe not.

Yep, that's the one I need.
I did notice on your control panel in the lower left side it look's like a name of a company that maybe made the game? A big P potomac and some small wrighting under it I cant make out. Maybe that's a clue, ever try Goggleing it? Also the side art looks like it was a space ship shooter and Space Panic is not a space ship shooter.

Yeah you're right it says Potomac Computer Games Division. The control Panel does say Space Panic on it too though. I haven't Google'd that, but I will right now.

Not much info on Google either. There is one known instance of a Star Fighter by Potomac Computer Games Division. I agree the side art doesn't look like a Space Panic.

Yea that's all I could find was a flyer of Star Fighter at The Arcade Flyer Archive

Star Fighter seems to be from 1981 and has Star Series so I assume they made more than one game. Well we know they made Space Panic. It also lists their USA address , World Headquarters Dallas Texas and Overseas Tokyo Japan. As you can see in the flyer, Star Fighter is shown as a cocktail and an upright. Very interesting. Wish we could find out more.
