i have a fairly large basement. but the entrance is impossible to fit most games through. do most of the old nintendo uprights come apart? or am i screwed =p?

nope, they don't come apart. I'd consider remodeling!

if only it were that easy (renting)....i feel like just building a secret elevator sometimes. so they are glued i take it?

Yeah.

I don't think you'd be happy with the results. That's messed up since Nintendo is one of the more smaller sized cabs.

If you can't get a Nintendo in there, you're screwed, Nintendo cabs are one of the lightest and shortest cabs "full-size" cabs out there.

But I'm pretty sure you can take it apart, not that I would. If you can get a couch down there, you can get a game down there...

yeah, i may be able to do it. maybe i will google sketch it and virtualize it. there is a couch down there...that is quite larger than a upright. any have the specs handy for a typical upright, dk etc?

Donkey Kong:

Height - 67"
Width - 23.5"
Depth - 33.5"
Weight - 220 lbs.

If you plan on living there long term, is it possible to modify the entrance, or create a new one? Might be a lot of work, but could be worth it.

BTW - I'm 6'1". A typical game width is about the same width as my shoulders. When I need to see if a game will fit, I walk through the doorways to see if I hit them. If not, then I know the game will come through, as only a few classic games are taller than me (like BZ, EDOT, etc). If I'm worried about a turn, then I put my hands on my hips, stick my elbows out, and spin on the landing to see if I hit. If not, then the game will turn just fine. If so, then I'll usually take it down sideways to the landing, then forward down the rest of the steps without rotating it. If the landing doesn't have enough room to hold both the game and the dolly (handtruck), then I get help and we take it down until we can set it on the landing (sometimes with a blanket underneath if it's hardwood), slide it around/over, then pick it up again and continue.

Sometimes it can be a bitch...

No crap? They must have made different sizes, then, because my DK and Vs. (which was originally a DK) are the skinniest cabs I have width-wise, and are only like 25.5" wide...

I will triple-check when I get home, but I know that mine are definitely not 27.5" wide. Any chance you typo'ed the width?

Figure most games are going to be around 26" w x 33" d x 72" h. Height will vary by game, but should be pretty close. Most of the games in Google Sketchup are accurate enough to test with.

Take it apart.

I had to remove all 4 sides of my 7' pool table and cut 10% off the bottom to get it in my basement.

I had to take my 7' air hockey table apart down to the last staple and re-assemble it once it was down there.

SO worth it!

i can get them in the house. but, the entrance to the basement has a hard left turn, that makes it difficult.

That sucks. I found out the hardway that pinballs wont fit down no matter what you do with stairs like that ;)

So I had my theatre sitting in the living room and went house shopping
