Space Invaders vs. Gorf

Update: the Gorf has the monitor chassis removed (tube still there), price lowered to $225. SI fully works and is complete, gent is firm at $300. Keep in mind that either seller's pics don't really show me shit at this point.

Given these 2, I'd go with Gorf. But if I had a space themed gameroom, I'd have to have a Life Force game in there.

Buy both, fix the monitor in gorf, make it look pretty, like you do so wel, and sell it. Keep the S.I. for the space themed room.

I can't believe you're even dithering about this. Space Invaders was one of those games of the 70's like Pong and Tank that was a "Rage" for a time. There is only one choice as far as I'm concerned and I know you're a nostalgia hound like I am. SI all the way

Nostalgia all the way, nothing beats that Moon, the clods look like they are floating with the black light effect, plus it's Space Invaders, everyone loves Space Invaders... GORF is cool as well. I would get both you can always rotate them in and out of the room, both seemed price fair.

Good luck,

Is getting some sort of a deal on both an option with the seller? I love my SI with the sweet 8-in-1, and Gorf is just a blast to play...lots of replay value IMHO as it gets challenging *fast*...

Don't pull the nostalgia card on me Rick, it could cost me an extra $75, you S.O.B.

It's the best card of all and your Kryptonite so I'll use it as often as I choose :)

Beside nobody outside this board even knows what a Gorf is. "Oh yeah Gorf wasn't
that some sort of crappy Tim Conway scketch?" Thats what you'll hear from you guests.

Space Invaders is calling your name... I can hear it.

2 different sellers, about 20 miles apart.

Very true. 'Dorf on Golf' is what immediately comes to mind every time someone mentions "Gorf".

GET IT!! That one has the hard to find louvered monitor bracket in between the bezel and the control panel! Most of them are smooth.

I may just be doing that this Saturday. I will hold out on the Space Invaders for now. I have seen them for sale in the $150-250 range, and I doubt they will go up in price. Gorf it is, unless someone swoops in and steals it from me, which has been known to happen around these parts.

-Gameplay = Gorf
-Cabinet Beauty = Tie
-Overall Game Room Ambiance = Tie
-Classic status = SI

As a big fan of Gorf, I have to see that I would be happy with either. The game play on Gorf is great but SI just exudes "Classic"

I think both cabinets look cool. Gorf has some really cool lighting that makes the cab stand out in my gameroom (plus speech). SI has that classic paint job (for which stencils are available to make it nice and pretty)

I'd have to say you can't go wrong with either one.

As others have said in the thread:

Space Invaders: A _classic_. Cool looking cab. Boring as hell.

Gorf: A lot more fun.

Do you want gameplay, or do you want something that looks cool/has retro "cred"?

The latter. But I think both do. The game play is a bonus. I am all about how my arcade looks and sounds.

Good choice! SI has a really cool cab and artwork but Gorf has way more "cool factors"
plus it has the voice in attract mode that we all know you dig.

Get the Gorf. It was probably the first multi-game, evar.

SI was cool back in the day but I wouldn't want one now. I actually think the 2600 version of SI was superior to the arcade original.

Don't eat the mushrooms......

IMO if you are looking for the latter, SI has it in spades over Gorf.

Agreed, but Gorf is no slouch in the fit and finish department. It also has the benefit of combining Robots with the alien/space theme. Robots & Space Aliens. Can't beat that combo.
