So last week I asked y'all for advice on when a game is too far gone (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=178819). Here are the photos of my SI table. Now that I have had some time to reflect, I feel like this could be a looooong slow restore, but that it can be and will be done.

I guess I just couldn't wait to get it open so when I got home and looked at it I was way disappointed.

It will be a slow long restore. I don't think it will be easy rebuilding it. I hear the Taito tables were a bitch. Not to mention the B&W monitor might be a tough score.

Space Invaders played with a joystick???? Blasphemy.......:p

I like that rainbow row of monitor gels all shrinking from the heat...:D

Nah uh - that's the way it's meant to be played. Taito's version came first, and it used a joystick. :)

Although I see Taito boards in there, the instruction cards and CPs look bootleg. Interesting.

What's specifically wrong with the monitor? Is it physically damaged?

That's what I thought! There is no Taito stamp on the outside and nothing inside has the standard Taito labeling. The harnesses are definitely not original. I didn't think the CP's were original either.

I haven't had a chance to look at the monitor to much. To be honest I am just getting the PCB thing down. Monitors are foreign to me. The chassis was disconnected so I would have to reattach.

Where is Baz when you need him.

Booo

What's up with the glass? Is that just dust and dirt or spillage from those paint cans? I'm just surprised that everything else seems much cleaner compared to the glass.

i thought taito table tops had the locks on the front of the table,1 on the left and right of player 1 side?

if it isnt a taito, its not worth restoring as its an hack/coversion job.just either get it working or covert it to something else.

i am in uk,these are the cocktails we get here, personaly i dont like them.

the legs are not taito also, taito have more squarish legs.

defo not a taito as i have had 1 in the past.

You are spot on! The only Taito parts were the boards and schematics. Everything else was bootleg. I think in addition to the points you mentioned, Taito table also had a metal manufacturer's plate and my Part IIhad Taito written down the side.

I tend to agree with you on the costs. I just don't know how much more I want to sink into a no Taito SI. I will keep the boards and once I buy a scanner upload the schematics.

The cabinet looks nice, a lot like a Nintendo cabinet.

Is that as bad as the Space Invaders I saw yesterday that was converted into a multigame?

What's so ugly?

Wipe off some of that crap, secure your board holder, replace that chip.

What's the matter? This doesn't look bad to me.

have a look under the table... or around the table... can you see a manufacture stamp ?

or maybe a square patch where a metal plate stamp may have been ?

your table might be a rare artic / atw

may i get a scan of the instruction cards ?
i have 7 different space invaders instruction cards here , give me a yell if you want a scan of any of them.

i got loads of spare taito board 3 layers , i can clearly see one of the chips has fried.

lets start with the monitor first....

remove all the crap... do you know how to put the suction cup back in ? careful.. high voltage there..

get a flat head screw driver and one long thick piece of wire.. wrap some wire around the metal part and perhaps attach a lil aligator clip at the other end... now we have a home made discharge tool.

put the aligator clip end onto a metal bracket that supports the tube.. dont worry this is safe i have done this a million times.

now touch the end of the screw driver right into the lil hole on the back of the tube... u may or may not see a lil spark.
now touch the screw driver end at the suction cup.. again just be sure its discharged.

now we can hold the suction cup and squeeze the whole thing back exposing the 2 lil clips to go into the hole.

give me a yell if you need help on where all the connectors go on the chassis.

we want to see if the monitor fires up :)
