I'm curious in the differences of how much paint spackle people have on their Space Invaders cabinets. Truthfully when I first got mine, I assumed the spackle was some idiot operator painting something too close to the arcade cabinet. Then I remember reading through retroActive's Space Invaders restoration thread and seeing how he made it a point to re-create the spackle that was apparently original.

My Space Invaders seems heavily spackled, including on the wooden portion of the control panel. Do others have spackle on the control panel as well? In the aforementioned retroActive resto thread, he ended up painting his just solid black.

Would also love to see just general pics of peoples space invaders, lit up or not. This is one of those games that will always be a classic to me and where the dedicated cabinet really makes the game.

I heard the same for PacMan, too... which I believe is BS. This might an east coast / west coast thing. I never saw speckles on the cabinets as a kid, (growing up in New York). I'll take pics tonight.

What part do you believe is bullshit? That Pac cabs had blue speckles from the factory? They do.

SI has black speckles on the white and extensive white speckling on the inside of the cab on the black parts.

Mine didn't have too much of the black speckles

Oh, crap... I forgot to take pics. :( My bad, I've been under the weather the past few days. I'll do the deed tonight.

Pacman always had blue flecks? Well, grill me golden brown and lather me with butter. I always thought that was an op thing and have seen a few without the flecks back in the day. I could be wrong.

The first Pacman I ever saw was a cabaret in a Nathan's Famous back in NY and they had a full sized one in a stationary store near where I lived. :)

I have a minty Pac with the blue specks. It is original.

Also have a Future Spa pin and those have gold specks. The specks were used to both make the simple stencil jobs on earlier game cabinets more busy, and to help mask flaws in the plywood.

OK, here ya' go...

I don't know if you need these anymore but here's the pics I promised. Sadly, these pics only remind me of how badly I need to restore both of them. :(

Yep... this is accurate. I had more black speckles than the white ones on the interior... In fact I had little to none on the inside.

Also mine had zero white speckling on the control panel.

You are going to find quite a bit of variances... it's best to just replicate what you have.

I used a stiff bristle brush and flicked it about 10 - 15 inches away. I also thinned it so it wouldn't be stringy.

Practice on cardboard first.
