OK so I got a SI for free the other day, and upon plugging it in it made the boom sound then the mothership sound continuously for about 15 seconds then nothing.

My first thing to check is the power supply. Is SI an AC game like Galaxian? What voltages should I measure and where do you suggest? Does anyone sell a cap kit/rebuild kit for the power supply? Should I/can I replace it with a switcher?

Thanks guys.

You have to be more specific -- both Taito and Midway released Space Invaders games, and they work quite differently. A picture would help.

It is a Midway, sorry. I figured that most of the boards would be Midway in this country.

Make sure you change the pot on that board too.

Thanks Arc!!

I have found that there are two caps on the daughter board that can give you the symptoms of a bad power supply

One is 5 volts the other is 12
Out of the dozen of SI machines I work on 8 of them has a cap issues on the daughter board that caused the power supply to have issues..

Make sure you get good voltages on that power board, because like I said, that relly sounds just like what mine was doing when the board needed to be rebuilt. I should have told you to bring the boards to test in my game last Saturday.

Anyhow, if you rebuild it make sure you completely redo the solder on the pins the harness goes to, one of mine looked fine but still gave me issues, it was fine ever since I sucked off all the solder and redid it.
