I originally got this machine in a multi-pin deal and figured it would be a donor. The playfield was trashed from years of constant play and a damp storage location. It sat for almost 2 years without being touched. I could not find a donor playfield so I began looking for an overlay and found one at Classic Arcades almost a year ago. This is my first experience with a complete overlay. I have done smaller insert overlays in the past and know that they look good new but wear quickly. I decided to cover this one with mylar. After a complete cleaning to kill layers of mold (15 years storage in a damp basement) the resto began. The pictures show the cab, original PF, stripped PF and the finished overlay. Now begins the task of repopulating the PF and bringing the SI back to life. I will post some more pics along the way when I feel like I have made progress.

Geez, and I thought side art would be a bitch to align. That would have to be perfect.

Wow that was one worn playfield! I always loved this game, the backbox is awesome. Once I have room one of these will go next to my SI arcade.

Did you trim out all of the printed woodgrain on the right side/shooter lane area? Curious just how you handled that area.

I had planed to cut out the shooter lane; but after I had put on the overlay it contoured the shooter lane so well I left it. Also I worried that right above the shooter lane near the spaceship if I had cut it there would be a edge for the ball to catch. I covered the entire thing with mylar so the lane is smooth and fast. Kinda played the first game today and it will eventually, with a lot of work, play great. It looks fantastic.

Here are the pics of the finished reassembled playfield. You can see in the pic of the inserts that the insert in the playfield does not line up perfectly with the insert area in the overlay - small concession for a great looking playfield. The shooter lane pic shows the shooter lane overlay un-trimmed. The wood in the overlay lookes as good as the original. Overall the machine is playable again. All of the important holes aligned perfectly but some insert areas are a little off but you cannot tell unless the light is lit.
