Space Invaders Pin Restore

You guys should be very proud of your SI pins. It's #1 on my most wanted list! I wonder who in this forum has the closest one to Nashville that would allow me to play theirs. ;-)

Nice jbk - my project S.I. isn't quite as worn as yours was, but pretty darn close. IDK what to do with it, though...

Any pointers as to were I might find an overlay? :(

Also looking for plastics if anyone has some extra's (mine's missing a lot so any used pieces would be better than nothing)..

Thanks Guys.

BTW - what a great machine to pull out of a barn find!!!

If you need plastics, here is where I got mine from:

Mine are in horrible shape. These repros are not perfect, but they look a lot better than what is currently in my game. Good luck with your S.I. pin.

I've been working on my pin, trying to get it to a point I can move it into the game room for some play. I spent last Monday (took the day off after CAX) working on the play field.

I cleaned the entire playfield with Novis 2 then waxed it. I replaced all of the GI bulbs with LED's and installed new rubbers and new repro playfield plastics. I think it came out really nice!

The only thing left is for me to replace the connectors to the Aux Light Board since my backboard lighting is glitchy due to the connectors.

Here are some pics from last Monday.

My son Sean and I going over the rubber placement chart:

Cleaned to about 1/2 way down. You can see the difference in the colors and blacks:

Half of the rubbers and plastics installed:

Here are some more pics after it was put all together with LEDS:

The controlled lamps are still #47 bulbs, the center pop bumper is a color changing fading LED. Most of the upper playfield is red LED's as you can see. The clone chamber outer lights are blue LEDs. Looks awesome in the dark, at least we think so.

thumbs WAY UP on your find

I like how you just pulled it out of the shed amongst all the junk. What did you pay for it, if you dont mind? Whats the purpose of the little flippers? Just curious is all. Wish my son was interested as yours is, he'd rather play black Ops online, but he did help me when I had to solder and install new targets on my HS. My eyes kinda hurt on some of the pictures with the LED's, but it does look sharp. As Terry (pinballlife) told me awhile ago, is that LED's are in the eye of the beholder! Take care and the pin looks GREAT!

This is looking great! Thanks for the photos, and please continue to update us on this restore.

Ok, here's an update...

Damit! Was playing it last night and the left side small flipper stopped working. The Solenoid board shows an extra light on it now when playing a game - which I assume is a shorted solenoid.

Out with the meter again...sigh. I'm glad I have Alltek boards in there.

I'll report back.

Got the flipper issue ironed out - just the End of Stroke switch was not making contact. Cleaned the contacts and it's been good since.

I really need to replace some light sockets for lights that either blink or go dim.

Here's some pictures of it in the game room now.

Really enjoyed this thread last year and was wondering what the current status of the game is. Is it fully restored? Definitely an amazing looking pin that I would love to own.

The LEDs are giving me ideas. I like the blue in the center hoop and thre reds in the corners. Now to find a cheap source of LEDs.
