Ok, I finally got my playfield ready to apply the overlay, sanded smooth, sunken inserts filled, multiply coats of clear sanded down, ect, but then decided that Id rather not do the actual application myself. Theres a shop a couple miles from my house, that tints auto windows, and prints thier own designs, including those decorator window graphics you see in pickup back windows and full body graphics for autos, so I figured they do this every day, so they can do this one too!
While talking to him about putting it down, I asked him if he could reproduce the overlay, he immediately said it would be no problem to do a high res reproduction, hes going to go ahead and scan it into his system so he can save the file (I doublechecked to make sure the file was saved, so I can reorder). I went ahead and ordered one, so I can see how it turns out;). Unfortunately it wont be ready until Wednesday and Ill be on my way north that day, so I wont be able to see it until I get back.

He said he was going to print it on 4 mil thick 3M brand Controltac vinyl. I asked him if it was tough stuff, and he said it was about the toughest stuff he carried, its what they print the vinyl car wraps out of and they have a 10 year warranty
price is looking to be in the $90 area, Ill know more when I get back

I just hope to have an SI pin one day. Can't wait to see yours finished. Excellent work so far. :)

I am in for one

Assuming they come out even half way reasonable I am in for one (possibly two). I have a spare playfield which is totaly trashed that I can clean up and put this on.

The one thing that may suck about putting it on a thicker vinyl is that the light for the inserts will not shine through well.

The best overlays are those printed on clear vinyl so that the inserts can be clear, that way the natural insert color shines through.

Regardless, let us know how it turns out. I would love a playfield overlay.

actually thats and the reason for the delay printing it out. He didnt want to print it on any of his current stock because he wanted to use a completely transparent vinyl so that theyre would be nothing dimming the inserts, so he had to order the material

Sweet! Even more interested then I was before.

So, how did it turn out?

Wildwest3163 is currently on the road picking up cabinets for a bunch of us and he won't be back in town until late this week :). No doubt he'll pick up the overlay asap, but I wouldn't look for an update until this weekend or early next week.

I came across a NEW Space Invaders Pinball overlay today when I was digging through all of my spare parts. I am restoring my machine with the standard wood playfield with the original art. I am willing to sell my Overlay if anyone is interested. I have not seen any available for Space Invaders Pinball but I really have no idea of it's value so feel free to make an offer.
Thanks
