I have a Midway Space Invaders that plays great but has no sound. Has anyone encountered this problem or know how to fix? Through a quick google search I have found a possible answer:

" I started poking
around one of the Power boards with a multimeter and found a bad diode, I replaced it and voila game works 100% Sound and Picture. So
without testing the other Power boards I just went and changed out that diode on the others and it fixed all of them. So if your game
plays and you have NO sound try replacing the single IN4004 Diode directly below the cable connector."

Can anyone verify this will fix the problem?

Thank you very much for your help.

stupid question...what sounds are on the original space invaders? I just picked one up yesterday, and it only has sounds for when you get hit, or the bonus ships. Is that correct? It's a cocktail too

I have a Space Invaders Deluxe with the 8-1 kit. IIRC, you're from Cleveland. If you want PM and you can stop by and check it out for yourself.

it has the "jaws" dah duh dah duh sound, the missle shoot sound, the invader getting hit sound, the mothership across the top sound, and the mothership when it gets hit sound. oh, and the extra base sound.

one thing that helped on mine, as i wasn't getting the mothership sounds and was having trouble with the reset line, was to hit all the solder joints on the power supply. there were a few that were cold and cracked, and doing that fixed my issues.

Can anyone tell me exactly where this diode is? I am having a hell of a time playing hide and go seek...

Looking at the schematic, I'd say he's talking about the diode in the audio power circuit. It's on the power board, and it's the one right with the cluster of four A14 diodes, near the connector, and right next to the 1000uf/35v electrolytic.

No guarantee that this is the exact same problem you have though.

Yeah, that diode seems to be reaching the end of it's life. I've been seeing a lot of bad ones. It's just part of the audio voltage circuit. If the voltage is there, the diode is fine. Check the voltage across the above mentioned cap. You should see somewhere around 15VDC (give or take a few volts).
