Space Invaders-loud boot up noise

I installed the new switcher with the reset circuit adapter from Arcade Shops. The Braze kit works now. I can't seem to get the kit to go into test mode. Also it doesn't seem to save the configuration of starting up to the Space Invaders screen. It always boots up to the menu screen. Any ideas?

Also I do intend to install a rebuilt original power supply but I'm waiting for a few parts.

Gotta go into the SETUP menu (P1-start) and change the powerup selection (to SI). I guess you did that?

  1. Enter setup mode (p1-start)
  2. Enter test mode (p2-start)
  3. Enter gameplay mode (fire)

More problems. Seems like I've lost vertical sync or something. Picture is scrolling from left to right while facing the front of the cabinet. I took the Braze kit out and it's still doing it. Adjusted vertical hold and it slowed down but it won't stop. If I bang on the cabinet I can make it stop or I can make it act up. Something is loose somewhere. I went over all the wires on the new power supply and they seem tight.

Took the boards apart and cleaned all the edge connectors with a fiberglass eraser. Also cleaned the legs of the 8080 chip. Scrolling issue seems to have stopped.

Just to bring this back up. No more loud noises but I still cannot get the Braze kit to enter test mode or to boot to a particular game. It always boots to the menu screen. I even tried putting in an original (not rebuilt) power supply. Same results. Joe thought the issue was a switching power supply but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Anone have any ideas how to get this Braze kit to work like it's supposed to?

This issue has been resolved. The Braze kit had a bad GAL chip. Joe from High Score Saves sent me a new chip and everything works correctly now.
