Space invaders II cocktail Black and White Monitor woes

Please i need some help from all the black in white Guru's out there

Happy news got my boards fixed thanks to DogP at the kick ass party he had and ken layton for id help.

My problem is that the image expands and contracs slowly on the first attract schreen and gets progressivly faster as the demo continues then repeats. during game play it gets pretty fast and stays faril'y consistant.

i have messed with all the pots and the only one that seems to affect it is the big silver/gold pot in the upper left on the chassie in pic #4 so should i clean or replace this pot i have some cleaner from rat shak in a spray can should i try that or just replace all of the pots doieds what ever goes bad on that model.

Also i have an exact second monitor it does not produce a pic at all but has neck glow so that seems strange but i know nothing about b/w monitors.

Please all the help and parts lists and sites to bet stuff from would be great and i have ordered from bob roberts befor he is great.

thanks
Buffett:)

OK, several things.....that pot you keep turning.....that's your B+ adjustment pot. The B+ for that monitor is supposed to be 73VDC. You really shouldn't have messed with it. You probably should check the B+ voltage and adjust it accordingly.

The behavior you described sounds like "blooming". On that monitor, it's usually caused by a failing high voltage diode....or the diode no longer making good contact. I would remove the diode, clean it's contacts, clean it's holder and the springs inside the holder.

And judging by the screen shots you posted.....you have a regular Space Invaders, not a Space Invaders Part II.

ok ill poke around it

sorry if i have the game wrong its what came in the cab i got two cabs exactully identical kept the best one and striped and trashed the other the glass has spiII painted on it il see if i can get the name/part # off the pcb.

can you tell me where to adjust the b+ i know the pot but where are the test pionts and the general location of the hv diod is. i dont have a maual to help me and this is my first b/w monitor ever.

and correct me if i am wrong i thought blooming is where the tube is really bright and fuzzy when you turn it on and it settles down mines clear all the time and it gets bigger and smaller like adjusting a camera zoom in and out real fast manually over and over ill try and post a video gotta figure out how to do that.:)

if any on can pm me i can i could better understand help on the fone thanks for the advice.

used my meter poked around a little tried adjusting the b+ tried a couple diffrent spots still cant find the hv dioed and by turning down the brightness it slows down the problem

also call me a noob that i am i thought relays had springs not dioeds if some one can explain to me where the test points are for the b+ i could get it adjusted please feel free to draw on the pics i posted as a refrence for me to use thanks.

See all the little "fingers" around the circuit board edges....the headers the board pushes down onto....Each one has a number. Number 2 is a B+ test point. The high voltage diode is in-line between the flyback and the picture tube. Here's a manual...

I know your gameboard is a Space Invaders (as opposed to a Space Invaders Part II) because of the pictures you posted. The title screen says Space Invaders.....not Space Invaders Part II.:D

getting better

that really helped it was way low it still pulsates alittle but tollarable i can turn the brightness up alittle more now.

i looked through the manual and i must be missing the lingo on how to shrink the picture virtically its way to long i can make it go up and down but not shrink it also i have not capped it i will be doing that when i get the funds thanks for the help its comming togather any other sujestions please let me know.:)

when i make my order to bob can you list all parts that should be replaced so i can make it more reliable. pots resistors dioeds ect please use the manual part numbers and ill match them up on bobs page if they cross reference please list that next to the old part #

i also want to get my other monitor working for a spare

thanks for your help in getting it working.:)

ok per your instructions

i have the B+ at 73v exact

i checked the manual
pin 3 = 142.5v should be 155v give ot take a couple acording to the manual
pin 7 = 27.63v should be 28v
pin 28 = 521v should be 550v give ot take a couple acording to the manual

if i am reading it rite it says that they should adjust with the width coil but it does not seem to do any thing

d 206 seems to test good i get a beep in one direction and not in the other
i cannot seem to locate d106 and d107 and Q106 to test them i am alittle confused on how to test Q106 when i locat it.

so i am still stumped and it still grows big and snaps back as you turn up the brightness
any help with this will be apreciated thanks.
