Good afternoon Klovers

I have a question, what would be considered a decent score for Space Invaders? I love the game and play it often. Either I just suck at it or it's just that hard. Granted it doesn't give out a TON of points for killing the aliens.

3260 is my score and I can't seem to get past that!! Lol

There are techniques to get high scores in this game, specifically counting your shots to get the UFO to yield the max points as well as techniques on how to optimally clear higher levels. Once you know these though the game gets unfun quite fast.

I think I recall reading somewhere... don't know if its fact or fiction... if you can get the movement of your base in sync with the thumps of the game you can do really well.

Because of saucer hunting, scores can vary greatly. You can get from 990 on the first wall to up to 3,690 or higher. So it's more important to identify what wall you reached. (I know everywhere else they call them "waves", but in the arcade days, in the Chicago area at least, everyone always called them "walls" not "waves").

Wall 1 starts with the invaders at their highest level. Wall 2 one step closer, wall 3 one step closer, wall 4 one step closer, wall 5 & 6 same as wall 4. Wall 7 one step closer, wall 8 & 9 same as wall 7. After that they get reset back up to the wall 2 level and the game repeats on the wall 2 to wall 9 cycle until you finally die, give up or get bored and quit.

it is a hard game. especially when you get into the 4, 5, and 6 walls, at least for me. the highest i ever got on mine was 4,030, iirc. and that was a lucky one time score. that was the only time i hit 4k. i could usually get into the low 3's.

What he said is very true. My best is 4610. It gets rough at 4 for sure. I think I have only been to 6 once or twice. Mid 3's is my average. so you did fine! :)

I have broken 3K maybe 3 times in my life. 3260 is a respectable score, for sure.

It is a tough game, but it is a game that you can definitely get much better at with practice. It's a very repeatable sequence type game, so there are several techniques you can use and practice to get better. Mystery ship hunting will help your score if you know the shot count to always get 300's. But that's not what will ultimately help get you to and through the higher levels, it will just get you a higher score on the first level. I wouldn't recommend mystery ship hunting if you want to build your skill.

For the first 6 walls, there's some very straightforward ways to play them and it's vey monotonous. It's pretty much picking off columns on the left (or right) over and over so they don't have a chance to drop down. You pretty much don't ever even cross to the right of the second barrier (counting from the left) above you; i.e., you never cross the middle of the screen.

Now getting through walls 7-8-9, that takes a good amount of practice, a good plan and a little luck.

I wish I had a game or knew of one near me, I could do a quick youtube vid.
