I installed a rebuilt power supply, motherboard with the 8 in 1 already installed and the daughter/sound card. The game menu comes up fine and I am able to toggle thru the selections and start a game. But sometimes the player 1 button won't register a game start. (Could that be a dirty leaf contact?) When it does work, the game plays fine and all buttons work as they should. If I try to start a 2 player game though, the game starts fine, and the 1 player controls work fine, but when the 2nd player starts, only the fire button works and the directional buttons do nothing. You can't move your shooter. Any ideas? Is there a dip setting for turning off the player 2 controls? I thought of the cocktail setting, but the screen doesn't flip. I just lose the directional controls. Thanks!

Being a SID, is it a cocktail compatible daughterboard with 3 plugs at the top? If so, your controls (smaller) plug should be in the plug closer to the edge of the board, not the one in the middle I believe. You may be plugged into player 2 plug that do exactly what you describe. Also double-check the dipswitches for cocktail mode, I think there's 3.

That does sound like cocktail mode...especially on the deluxe if you have a cocktail compatible board in an upright. Make sure all the dipswitches are set properly.

Yeah, that's what I am wondering. What is 'properly' with the multikit installed. I don't have the instructions or a dip setting sheet.

Whoa, you're changing shit on me. I will check the connectors when I get home. It looks identical to the board stack I took out to replace.

Thats what the problem was...was plugged into a cocktail board and I was trying to use the player 2 controls for player 1. Fire worked but nothing else.

Man, I went through this earlier this year... P1 worked perfectly, wouldn't move. ... I can't remember how I fixed it, but I -think- it was a DIP... I just can't remember. Sorry man, I do remember it was a simple fix though.

But wouldn't the screen flip? Or are you saying I am just plugged into the wrong header?

Unless for some reason the multikit is causing the screen not to flip (There may be a cocktail setting on the multikit as well as on the board dip switch settings)
Otherwise, I'm not sure if it's the same on SI Dlx as it is on regular SI, but from what I remember there are separate player 1 and 2 wires which are both connected to the same button on the upright control panel, so you may want to check and make sure nothing came loose on the CP...

Maybe these will help.

Phet,
If this is the set you bought from me,here is a pic of the connectors from my harness that are larger than the ones pictured in this thread.
Player 2 controls are pin 10=fire,,pin 11= left and pin 12= right.
here are the pinouts from brent radios site.

I hope this helps you to get it going.

Yep it's the one I got from you, finally opened the box on Saturday!! I just wanna get the 2 player controls to work. That HS graphic glitch you shared with me doesn't worry me in the least. I may even get my original boards fixed and then install this kit on them, then get a second kit for these boards and throw them in an original SI cabinet when I find one. Great line up of games that's for sure. Lunar Rescue kicks ass.

All i can think is make sure dip 5,6 and 7 are off,but it should have came to you that way.Maybe hook a wire to ground and touch pins 10,11 and 12 and see if it works that way to figure if it is a board or cab problem.I'd hate to think it is a board problem.I'd like to think it is an easy fix like a poor ground on player 2 control panel.

Phet, if its a cocktail board and that's where you're plugged in, never hurts to just try the other connector. If you were looking at the daughterboard with it in your hands, mobo/edge connector at the bottom and the pin connectors at the top, the far left top connector should remain connected, thats power, audio, reset, etc. Leave that one plugged in. The other two (on a cocktail board) are the player 1 and 2 connections. An upright only has one plug so its gonna go into one or the other. If the one you're connected to doesn't work...can't hurt to try the other one. They're both the same pinout AFAIK.

Hello fellows, I fixed it. I printed out both the pinouts and the dip settings and went home to tackle it. Lo and behold, I got lucky the first time. Dips 5,6 & 7 were off, 8 was on. I reversed those switches and it worked. I have never been happier. Thanks guys. I have a working SI Deluxe with the multi kit, for a grand total of $150 and a little of my precious time. Yeehaw!

Engage.
