Anyone have the file for doing the single rom mod on a SID boardset? I'm working on a board for a forum member and can't for the life of me get it to read 2716s correctly. I've wasted too much time on this and so I'm ready to take the easy way out.

I understand the basic principal behind it, but I haven't had to combine rom files as of yet and am not so sure how to use the editor in my programmer software. Plus I have no idea what the checksum should be if done correctly. It would be easier to just have the known good file and just burn the damn thing.

Anyone? Buhler?

Ok...I found a free hex editor program (Hex Editor Neo) and decided to have a go at it myself.

Now according to the memory maps I found online it doesn't get done as a single continuous file. The first 4 roms are, but then it skips from 1FFF at the end of rom 4(e) and jumps to 4000 at the start of rom 5(d). Sound right? Any code jockey who can verify this?

A swing anna miss. Burned the image to a 27128a, did all the board jumpering...no dice. Acts like there's no rom there....lines and bars. Guess I didn't merge the files right.....

You following these instrucions?
http://cambridgearcade.dyndns.org/?q=node/72

As far as how to accomplish the concatenation of the EPROM files... it's probably doable in most EPROM programming software, but I find just using DOS is easier:
Code:
copy /b file1+file2+file3+fil4 outfile
Also described here (and many other places, google "copy /b concatenate eprom" or similar):

+1 to what darren said

I did it in a hex editor program (Hex Editor Neo). So it looks as tho if you just tell dos to combine the files, you just end up with a continuous string of data. I was following the memory map and made sure the start/stop points for each rom file were where they should be.

invdelux.h 0 - 7FF
invdelux.g 800 - FFF
invdelux.f 1000 - 17FF
invdelux.e 1800 - 1FFF
invdelux.d 4000 - 47FF

Just got a email reply from Mark Spaeth. Apparently you disregard the memory map and just combine all the files in a continuous string. Erasing the eprom...we'll see how that works.

Reburned the rom, still not working...but closer. It is stuck in a reset loop.....just draws the score section of the pix then resets. FWIW, I took my known good space invader board and put SID proms in it. With the soundboard from a deluxe connected it does this *exact* same thing.

So this seems to point to the sound board as causing the issue, even though the board will run regular SI code without problems.

If you're looking at my post (which I swear has to be end-all to this topic :)), keep in mind I worded that for a 2764, NOT a 27128 which has a slightly different pinout.

If you're seeing part of the screen, that means it IS booting and chances are its reading properly to some degree - check over your address lines and keep in mind there's a reset circuit on the daughterboard, and they do go bad.

Necro-bumping this thread (...from 8 years ago ! ),
because someone just asked for for an all-in-1 eprom for Space Invaders Dlx .
.... so I just created one... and am happy to share..

This is a concatenation of all 5 Space Invaders DLX erpoms into 1 file,
( Rom H + G + F + E + D )
which program onto a 28-pin 27128 eprom (16 Kbytes)

[ Note: SI Dlx has 5 eproms of 2 Kytes each, so the combined file is 10 Kbyte,
... which requires 16 Kbyte eprom (27128) ]

BTW, if anyone has a good site with info on how to make this conversion,
I would be happy to see a link. (... this thread mentioned an SI conversion, not DLX )

Thanks,
Steph

Cool... Cheers... for the file...
i have seen this on many a Google search & not found a file
not that i am big on doing single ROM mod's but can be handy :)

Q:- have you thought of using a 27256 & dump both SI & SID on so can have both games with a switch ?

Very good info but I thought "everyone" has the SI Multi (from Braze) in their SI/DLX now. If not, you sure are missing out.

I second the braze kit - it is awesome
