Hi, I've been repairing a sid cab i purchased and have been having some problems with the board. i tried to inspect the board to the best of my knowledge but couldn't seem to find any bad caps. i saw a few questionable looking areas that I've included in the photos but that's all I really noticed out of the ordinary. I just purchased new roms so I know thats not the problem. If anyone can give suggestions I's appreciate it. Also, if the board is beyond repair or if anyone has a space invaders deluxe board for sale, list your sale price. I'm a bit short on cash currently but if its affordable i may just buy a working board.

Thanks!

Depending on the ROMs you purchased, there is a specific ROM strapping method on the board to enable the ROMs to work on the board. Some of the documentation is actually incrorrect and there are several versions of the boardset making it even more complex. I have three cabinets that I am working on presently so I have been repairing a few boardsets. I can take a look if you are not in a hurry. If you are in a hurry, an excellent resource is http://elektronforge.com. Alex is top notch and well worth the money. I am assuming to start with you verified all the voltages are correct with the power supply - thw -5V supply is particularly important as attempting to run without the supply will likely kill most of the RAM.

+1 on the ROM strapping. If it originally had TMS2716 EPROMs, and "regular" 2716 replacements were installed w/o re-strapping, they may have been toasted by the tri-voltages...

Honestly, I'm really new to arcade repair and board repair is a bit over my head. I may just have to give in and buy a replacement board because I don't really have the tools or knowledge to repair this myself. Ill keep reading up on how to repair it myself though if I can't replace the board. Thanks for all your guys advice.

I'm in Mi and can repair the board for you if you want. I would recommend a power regulator board rebuild if its not been done just to make sure it delivers correct/clean voltages to the board.

I appreciate all the offers for help, but honestly, at this point I think it may be quicker and easier to just buy a replacement working board than the time and cost it will take to repair the one I have. Thanks again and if anyone has a board for sale send me a pm.

Don't ignore the power supply then. If the reg board ain't right, it could damage the parts on the game board which require all 3 supply voltages.

Id replace the cpu and rom sockets...appears to be a rom issue otherwise it looks good...reset line is ok otherwise you wouldnt get the slternating lines.

Also...make sure you have the roms in the right direction and starting with "H" (the socket closest to the cpu).

Thanks for the tips. The power supply is good, I did a cap kit and fixed it, before the screen had only a fuzzy vertical line. I thought the roms were a problem too, but I ordered replacement ones from a member here so now I'm not sure what's up

I'd take Boardjunkie up on his offer. Better to fix your board, than buy a board that may have problems as well. Sometimes it's cheaper to keep her.

May just have to do a restrap, and replace some ram. Then you will have a repaired board that you are in the know about..

Worth a shot before you go biting the bullet.
