Working through a Space Invaders Deluxe with plenty of issues, replacing dead LM3900s, bad caps, broken resistors, etc.

Braze multigame kit is installed, and the repair is to the point where games play fine, aside from remaining sound and intermittent video issues that are on the list to resolve (bad RAM?).

However, I noticed that the Braze kit does not go through the self test process upon powering up the cabinet, and there's no way for me to get into the test mode as it boots directly to the game selection screen.

Anyone seen this happen with a Braze kit? Would it be the kit itself, or something on the board that's interfering with it?

Additional info:

If I hold down Player 1 or Player 2 start during bootup, I see garbage on the screen. Once I release the button/s, the game selector appears.
