I have been playing a lot of SID lately. The past few days I have noticed strange things happening during some games:
-Random small lines
-Fires when I press the left button
-Once I died on the right when all the invaders were on the left
-Today I was on the right and a UFO entered on the left. It blew up!
After the last thing happened I powered the machine off and then back in. It went through the Multigame self-test and everything was okay except the BIT, which it said FAIL. I rebooted and it passed and I played a few games fine, then it started acting up again.

Is there a certain chip(s) that will cause the bit fail? I'm going to pull the game out and reset the chips and connectors, but I was looking for some additional insight.

Double check and see if you have all sounds present.

I got the bit fail on mine before, I cleaned the edge connector and the other 2 connectors and it started working reliably again. I also had lines in the invaders but not the other symptoms, so it might not just be dirty connectors in your case.

UPDATE:
I cleaned the 3 connectors on the PCB and reset the two boards. I played 4 games (about 35-40 minutes) and everything seems better (last night it was messing up after 2 games). Tomorrow will be the test, since hopefully I'll have more time to play it.

if the lines come back, and its jail bars.. it could maby be a eeprom chip.. i have a punch-out!! board that had jail bars and come to find out it was a bad 8P on the video pcb. im not shure if this would help you since these are 2 diffrent games, but you never know...

Bit Fail refers to a number of chips, which type you have depends on your sound board revision as Midway and/or Taito used different ones depending on the board revision. See if you can see any 74153 TTLs on the board for starters (these are 16 pin chips). One of those or associated TTLs will probably be responsible.

Had it on and played it for about 4-5 hours yesterday with no problems.
It wasn't jailbars, it looked like remnants of the invaders were still there when it moved down and over, or got hit.
