So I picked up a "Galaga" which I eventually figured out is actually a "converted" Midway Space Invaders. I can't even adequately describe how it has been butchered, especially the control panels...

I'm contemplating resurrecting it as a Space Invaders, but I need parts and information. I can get an original SI monitor but it is from an upright... are they the same? I also have no idea how the original monitor was mounted... there was a hacked up non-functional GO7 bolted to the underside of the top when I got it, with the anode ready to zap you when you insert a coin.

The cabinet itself is in good condition, so I really hope I can restore it... but it depends on if I can get the parts. If anyone is interested, I posted what I need in the wanted section: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=249851

Thanks for any tips/comments/suggestions.

So the main thing in question right now for me is the top glass. Is there someone on the forums that typically has a lot of original cocktail glass tops that I might ask about a Space Invaders?

Thanks, I appreciate the thought. Unfortunately that one is a Taito SI2. If it was a Midway one, it would be helpful... but I'm pretty sure the Taito and Midway cabinets don't have a single common part other than possibly the PCB (not even sure about that one).

The Taito ones are long on the horizontal axis and have a small monitor. The Midway ones are the same style as Ms. Pac-man, Galaga, etc, being long on the vertical axis and having a full-size 19" monitor.

Btw, that wasn't a bad deal really :) He was throwing in a non-working QIX cocktail, which has got to be a little rare.

PM if you need any detailed pictures of a Midway Space Invaders, I have a nice original non-working one in my project pile :) I've opened it long enough to see that nothing is getting power.
