Is this at all possible? I've got a Deluxe which has a tube but no chassis. I've grown a little impatient with having a machine taking up space without play in my garage. I have a buddy with a million 13" k7000 monitors. Is there a way to run the wiring to a K7000 instead of the B/W chassis?

I couldn't care less if the image is smaller than the 15" in there. And of course, I don't want it to even have colors, but if some colors came thru, who cares, eh?

You'll definitely need to install an isloation transformer in the cabinet for a k7000 monitor.

hmmm. didn't even think of that. But in theory, if I id that for powering the tube, any idea how I would wire up the wires which would normally got to the BW chassis brick to sit on the k7000 pins?

For the K7000 - other than the isolation transformer needed, you may find that the sync will only need to go to the horizontal sync. The k7000 only needs horizontal when using composite sync, but not sure is this qualifies as 'composite'.

other than that, yes it will work. Others have done it....

You do realize that Space Invaders video signal is basically composite video - you can use an old television set...

Is this a cocktail table? The uprights have a 19" monitor. If you put a 13" in there....you'll have to get creative with mounting.

its an upright, but the tube seems alot smaller than most other 19" I've moved.

The viewing area of the tube will be the same....the "bell" is different. Those black & whites are 100 degree tubes.....almost all color tubes are 90 degree tubes. So, the black & white won't be near as "deep".

Ok guys, thanks for answering my questions thus far. Based on Retrohacker's advice, I've successfully spliced the composite wires to a standard RCA jack. Now I've got my game playing on an old C64 Monitor. I'll be grabbing an old 19" tv off CL tomorrow. Just seems to be the cheapest, and also the most satisfying route.

So here's the next question, can my TV wires be somehow spliced and then hacked into my game's transformer so that it powers on when the game is switched on? OR perhaps I should just have it plugged into it's own outlet, then add a pushbutton to the cab to turn the power on, eh?

Mod...Ken....?

If I'm understanding correctly...all you need to do is tap the TV's power cord into the games 120V line....after the on/off switch. I would tap it at the transformer's 120V input side.

Just a progress report on this thread.

So far, I've received signal on my test TVs from the RCA/ component hack I did to the signal and ground wires from the board. Image comes onto the screen nice and neat. Unfortunately, the screens never quite seem to stay in place, the v.holds never keep it steady. So it always scrolls. Not sure if this will go away if I splice the power cord and run it off the game's power rather than thru a different outlet?

That was question number #1

Question 2: There is a guy locally selling a BW cocktail game called ZUN ZUN Block. Looks like it's in one of those small 15" screen setups. I have no idea what chassis is in there yet. But....would it ever be possible to run a 19" invaders tube off of a chassis built for a 15" tube? What if the tube I have is for a V1000 and this is possibly a V2000? Would they be swappable?

Help appreciated.

V1000s and V2000s use the same tube...but the yokes are different. In fact, every 19" black & white monitor I've ever worked on....all use the same tube...V1000, V2000, G05, Motorola's, and even Cinematronics. All the 19" tubes are interchangable.

So they'd swap is what you're saying? And what about the 15" to 19" factor? Do you think the chassis off the 15" could work with the 19" counterpart?

here's the cocktail in question:

Looks like a 15" B/W to me from the pic.

Well, without knowing what model of monitor we're talking about...it's hard to say. But, I'd guess...yes.

Black & white monitors seem to be less picky than their color counterparts.

The 15" and 19" black & white vectors are pretty interchangable.
The 19" and 23" black & white rasters are pretty much interchangable.

So, odds are on your side...but you never know. Sorry, I know this isn't much help.

Actually very helpful. Thanks. I'm supposed to go see this thing Sunday. Of course, if it is in fact a 15" B/W, I guess I could always just modify the cabinet to hold a 15 instead of a 19 tube.
