Hi everyone,

I recently bought a jap. Space Invaders Part II Table with a Moon Cresta PCB in it.
Everything is working fine but I wanted to replace the Moon Cresta with a Space Invaders Part II PCB so the table would be original again.

I only found a Space Invaders I PCB and bought it. I am currently waiting for it to arrive and in the meantime I was wondering how to get the B+W video signal for pin 18 on the CPU/Rom board? Can I simply pinch together RGB + SYNC and wire it to pin 18? Are there any other modifications I have to make because of the color monitor or is it Ok since I can wire RGB to the sound board?

Here is the pinout i found:

Did you purchase a Midway board?....or a Taito board?

Some (there's different versions) of the Taito boards are capable of outputting color. It's just a ROM swap. If you have a Midway board (or a Taito not capable of doing color), joining the R/G/B/sync wires together will not work.

Oh I'm sorry, its a Taito board.

Do you have a guide for the color rom swap? When I do have a board incapable of color, how do i get the b/w signal for my cpu/rom board and do i still have to connect R/G/B on the main board?

Thanks!

FYI - there's two "Taito" boards - the L shaped set and the 3 board stack.

The l-shaped set is the same as the Midway, just with extra wires attached. The 3 board stack is the one that could be color-capable.

Technically connecting RGB and Sync might work but would probably be very hit or miss. People have reported that it works sometimes. There's better instructions out there I just can't seem to find them (internet connection not working good today either).

Another idea - if you can score a 13" TV with composite video in, that should work too.

It is a 3 board stack and I hope it arrives tomorrow. I think i just try to connect R/G/B and Sync and hope that it will work because i don't want to change the monitor.

Would be very nice if someone could post a link to the guide or explain how to get a color output or even how to connect the PCB :)

Thanks!

Thanks Ian, thats what I wanted to hear :D

So I don't need the black/white signal at pin 18 at all? My concern was how to get the b/w signal out of a color monitor.

The black and white signal is only for driving a black and white monitor. It's just composite video, and it won't be needed if you're using the color output instead.

You just need to use the Red, Green, Blue, Sync, and video ground pins over on the sound board. (Pins 15, U, T, V and M, respectively).
