space invader wires to knowhere ?

the monitor's powered by that one big plug that you see through the control panel or coin door. just look around for the other half heh. they're not stupid enough to make a coin door harness plug into a light fixture.

sorry rather than skating around , can you just tell me what you think the wires are please ?

im at a total loss here , ive been trying to get somekind of gameplay now for months im trying this and that and getting nowhere

im getting a white screen thats it no gameplay no sound nothing :(

Si wires

I just moved 2 machines to dig out my SI. It is 100% the plug for the blacklight for the moon.

Has nothing to do with why your screen is white. If you can't coin up and start a game then the power supply or game board are suspect. Check voltages on the power supply. There are 3 voltages +5, -5 and +12.

Look here for help:
http://www.brentradio.com/SpaceInvaders.htm

Or here to get the boards repaired:

One you have it working get this:

thanks scott :) . thats wicked to know its for the moon .

as to game board repair etc , look in tech help and moniter help

ive made alot of posts the last few months reguarding my woes

SI...

1. If game coins up and plays but monitor is white. Check brightness & contrast they are turned up too high. Of a monitor issue

2. If game won't even coin up it's a power supply or mpu issue. Check all the voltages on the power supply -5, +5, +12. If they are good the MPU has issues. Here is a site on testing the power supply: http://www.elektronforge.com/TestMdwPS.htm

3. SI MPU is relatively cheap to get repaired if you can't fix yourself (~$50). Also relatively cheap to replace the boards with a working set (~$100).

By the way if the blacklight is dead be sure to replace with a "white" blacklight. That is the correct bulb.

Good luck. Let me know if I can help in any way.

hi scott ,

i just checked voltages and guess what they are bang on or as near on ?? at edge connector

-5 was 5.00
12v was 11.99
+5 was 5.00

so even though game still doing jack thats good yes ?

no what ha ha ? still getting white screen , no game play , doesnt play blind doesnt coin up ? boards fixed 100% tested and working on a test rig

hmmmm

ok so lets see. Always check the silly first so...

1. Make sure the harness is plugged in properly. See photos attached of mine.

2. Turn the volume dial halfway so you know some form of sound should be coming out and try to coin up and start a game. Shoot the fire button a few times wait a few minutes for when the mother ship would fly across - see if any sound comes out so you can narrow down the issue to the monitor or not.

3. There are some controls on the monitor board not just in the front by the coin door. Here's a thought - unplug the game boards and turn on the machine. Is the monitor blank or get the same white you had before? If so then the brightness is definitely turned up.

I have to do some work but back in a bit. Good luck.

- You have a power supply issue. Hopefully it hasn't also damaged your main boards.

Have a friend locally who can try the boards in their cabinet?

i didnt have the boards plugged in , and prior to that the voltages were fine at edge connector

so maybe finally gave up ghost , strange as hell though .

im in the uk , and noone local to help or wants to im afraid at the moment it seems . ive just paid a expert to look and fix at my boards , i got them back plugged them in and got nothing , so i had to pay again for him to have them back only for him to tell me the boards were fine ?

advice...

1. Have the repair guy show you your boards working & playing. Not just with a multi-meter. If he won't then find a different repair guy. Also you should not have to pay for him to show you it working.

2. If the power supply voltages are that off when the board is not plugged in and then appear correct when it is I really think the supply is off and you are putting stress on the main boards at the very least. My Satan's Hollow did that and it was a transistor on the powers supply. Changed it and game worked perfectly.

thanks scott , im on it on the uk arcade forums , see if anyone can help me

all the best and i will keep you posted .

if power supply is dodgy , i may just fit a switching power supply if i can , as although i love old stuff when it goes wrong in my experience costs me alot of money .

that way if i fit a switcher it can be altered back easy enough to standard ..

Be sure to put that switcher to the correct voltage; many have the 110/220 switch set to 110 but not always.
