I still would really like to get this thing completely restored, as I love Nintendo, and just hate hate to see this go to Mame.

I am willing to let this take time to finish, I think its worth it to me. So if anyone comes across a working Sanyo Cocktail / Cabaret monitor, please let me know.

The cabinet is very clean, no damage, and the glass has no scratches, original score cards in great shape. Does anyone know how many of these were made?

1. Need a board set.

2. Does anyone have a manual for this / tell me the pinouts / voltages? Before pumping money into board / monitor, I want to make sure the power supply is working properly.

3. Do I have all the necessary cables? Inside are 2 cables for the control panels, 1 to the speakers, 2 from the power supply, 1 for the coin door, and a loose interconnection cable. (See pictures.)

4. Here are some pictures of the monitor. The chassis will need to be replaced for sure, but the tube looks alright. The little neck collar is a little loose (See close up picture.) Does this mean the tube is shot? I would still mostly like to replace the entire monitor, as the case has some mouse damage.

I just got a Space Firebird for a good deal because the game I got was slightly damaged while being shipped to another buyer. The guy I bought it from made me a good deal because the glass was shattered and the top was tweaked. Other than that the entire game is working great.

I see your top is different than mine and my control panel is different also, my corners are rounded on the table top and my buttons are in a different location and round......interesting.

I posted the pinout somewhere - let me dig it up. Actually, I posted somewhere that you can actually use a DK multi harness to power up the board set - just a few wires needed to be moved around.

Gimme a sec....

Found it:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=221487

I did some more checking on this. The Space Firebird board set is not compatible with the DK power supply, but if you have a spare set of 9 and 10 pin power cables, you can easily make a power harness that will work.

The 9 pin power is a direct match:

Pin 1: Gnd
Pin 2: Gnd
Pin 3: Gnd
Pin 4: +12v
Pin 5: +12v
Pin 6: +5v
Pin 7: +5v
Pin 8: -5v
Pin 9: +24v

The 10 pin power cable, however, does not match. On the DK power supply, it's:

Pin 1: -5v
Pin 2: -5v
Pin 3: -5v
Pin 4: -5v
Pin 5: Gnd
Pin 6: Gnd
Pin 7: Gnd
Pin 8: Gnd
Pin 9: +5v
Pin10: +5v

The Space Firebird 10 pin power needs:

Pin 1: Gnd
Pin 2: Gnd
Pin 3: Gnd
Pin 4: +12v
Pin 5: +12v
Pin 6: +12v
Pin 7: +12v
Pin 8: +5v
Pin 9: +5v
Pin10: -5v

So, by de-pinning the 10 pin power cable, and rearranging wires, I can get Gnd, +5v, and -5v supplied to the 10 pin connector. But the Space Firebird also needs +12v on that connector too. The solution? Borrow one of the 12v wires from the 9 pin power cable, leaving one 12v in the 9 pin, and using the other 12v in the 10 pin.

I tried this arrangement with my DK power supply and my Space Firebird board set and it booted perfectly. Now I have a custom made power harness allowing me to bench test my other Space Firebird board using my DK power supply.

Why do this? Well, two reasons:

  1. DK power supplies are easier to come by
  2. If I ever want to send my Space Firebird boards out for service (which I plan to do), I can now send just the boards and my custom harness, rather than having to mail a 25 pound linear power supply along with the boards.

I have a spare Space Firebird board set, but the sound board is currently on loan to Tighe. Board set works perfectly. When you get to the point in your restore where you need the board set, PM Tighe and me, and we'll see if we can work out a sales deal.

Otherwise, there's lots of folks on the forums that have busticated SF boards in their collections. I'm sure you buy a broken one and have it repaired.

Why would you say the chassis needs to be replaced? I think you could repair it pretty easily. Those 14 inchers aren't very common, so I'd try and get it repaired.

Your tube should be fine. That black cap is just a pin guide to assist the neck socket in lining up properly when you plug it in. Tube should be fine.
