Ok, so I bought a space encounters non-working, but complete.
The questions needing help for;
1: if you don't coin-up after plugging in, does the game just play the background wooshing noise normally?
2: What would cause a monitor to have neck glow, but no picture and no whine?
The story thus far;
I wired up the boards and hooked the monitor wires back up, then plugged it it to see what I had... nothing.
First issue I found was the power cord. It was pinched, and one of the wires had been cut, so I fixed that.
After that, I tried power again, and I got the glow on the neck and a wooshing sound coming from the speakers.
So, being the way I am, I decided to shotgun the whole game boardset because the caps were all 32 years old anyways, and I figure I'll have to change them all anyways eventually.
The shotgun of all the boards didn't seem to make much immediate difference, but it's nice to know they aren't an issue, at least.
I also found that the coin door area is hacked to hell, and will need to be rewired, and I suspect that the wooshing noise that I hear is the background space sound when the game is playing, so I'm not sure if that's normal or if it's stuck like that.
I know the monitor is bad (I think the flyback is shot). I get a glow on the monitor neck, but no whine when powered up.
So, that's it for now. I'll try to keep updates going, and if anybody would like to pitch in some helpful information, I would appreciate it. Thanks,
