Space Dungeon???? Like it or hate it?

i use to love this game, dont remember playing it in a ded cab, in fact i might not have been in the arcades..not sure but i use to like it as a kid.

that's one i still need to play. i'm looking forward to cax for getting to play some of these games i've never really played before. i would've done that at funspot but didn't have a ton of change on me...

I used to be hooked on it through MAME.

I may or may not have a memory of it in an actual arcade. If I recall, it's the place that also had a Zoo Keeper and a Pirate Pete.

What are your thoughts on Space Dungeon ??? Anyone own one or have played it???

I never played it in the arcade days. I had a dedicated one for a while and didn't care for the game play. I ended up trading it for an I, Robot. It is a fairly rare game. I like I, Robot a lot. I don't miss the Space Dungeon at all. All depends on what you like I guess.

I have yet to play it, but I recently picked one up, though it is missing the monitor, bezel and coin door so who knows if it works... yet.. Pretty solid cab!

Never played it either back in the day.....Until Mame came along.

On a side note, love that color combo!

This is one of my all time favorite games. On the off chance some of you haven't tried this: do NOT worry about the treasures -- the goal (and only goal on later stages) is to visit each room at least once. You get a big bonus for this -- 10K on the first level, 20K on the second, etc. Since you get a free guy every 10K this means lots of extra guys on later stages. I have flipped the score by doing this and makes for a very fun game. The game is like Defender in that everything you hit is an extra man from 990,000 until a million, where the score flips to zero.

Sometimes if you die multiple times on a level some of the doors will disappear and actually give you no way out -- the game is basically over at that point unless you sit around and shot the guys that appear out of nowhere. Otherwise, there is not much you can do. This is rare though.

"Stay Alive on Level 5" :)

Necro bump. Thank you jrok for the ZooQ board! I do love to hate this game and play this way more than qix or zoo keeper. It has to be one of the hardest games I own. Level 5? I can't get past level 2 or 3. What is the damn strategy on this game.

Never played it in the arcade, but I love it on the Atari 5200, which is a good port of it(kind of cool that it had a console port being that it's a bit obscure, especially being that it's a 5200). It's a FUN game, if one came up I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

I, too, never played this in the arcades, only on the Atari 5200. It's a fun game especially with 2 players. Meaning, on the 5200, one person flies the ship around while the other shoots, one joystick each (game comes with a plastic joystick holder to give the player a dual joystick set-up like Robotron or Battlezone). It's like you're both crewmates in a helicopter gunship or something. Not sure how that work for the arcade version, if many players tried that 2-player option.

I've only played it at Fun Spot and want one to play it more and figure it out. Level 1 is easy, but is it worth it to go into some/all of the rooms and shoot everyone? Is it smart to peek into a room and back out and let them come into your room to shoot them? I need to play way more.

The graphics are also really simple, but that allows it to get really hairy (like Robotron) with too many monsters too shoot (not as many as Robotron)(Jarvis is the best).

So, I think it's a great game.
