ok, so I go in and start troubleshooting my space duel. being the vector savant that I am.

I test the +5 and it comes up 8.64, then I test the +15 and it's good.

well shit now what. Oh yeah, I have another almost working space duel, just needs a cap kit. so I pull the power board plug her in, spot killer off, good start.
I go to teh front and you see my first picture, what the f?

then I start pushing buttons and realize it's test mode, flip the switch and voila. I am playing space duel!!!!!!!!

when I tested teh 2nd board it came up +5.
I do have another big blue.

I have to rebuild the board I just pulled, should I rebuild them both?

I would suspect the original pcb has burnt 5v pins on the edge connector. You need to fix that if thats the case.

If you rebuilt the ARII once, no need to do that again. Replace the big blue if you plan to keep it. If your referring to the caps on the game board itself, I have not heard of people replacing those.

I do have another working board in the other space duel, I can swap that in.

the power board I put in is working fine. I have tested it before.

I was referring to rebuilding both power boards, not the game boards.
thanks bill

I'm pretty sure there is a pot on the AR2 board to adjust the voltage, try plugging in the game with the AR2 that's running hot not having the edge connector plugged into the game board test the 5 volt while adjusting the pot on the AR2, see if u can get it down to 5volts, then plug in the game board after powering down and see if it works. I doubt the big blue is bad if you only swapped AR2s from one cab to the other, now if you swapped the AR2 and the power block then u need to test voltages at both AR2s with the old and the new power block! Then u can isolate were your problem is. If adjusting the pot on the AR2 doesn't change voltage then most likly the transistor is bad on the AR2.

Be thankfull your not troubleshooting a Star Trek G08 sega vector like me, everytime I work on it the fire extingusher is ready, I'm pretty close isolated it down to 3 bad transistors and no more fire, just blowing a fuse. It all started when I replaced the chasis and found out the dumbass I bought the game from tried to rig a raster tube into a G08 vector chasis, I wonder why the chasis caught on fire, they even went as far as soldering a raster neck yoke onto the neck chasis and cutting off one of the pins! I've got it all back to original and almost working, just need those damn transistors. Good luck with your game Dylan and keep me posted.

I agree. I'd be surprised if the AR is that far out of adjustment due to the pot. I expect the transistor is toast. Easy to fix and you can replace the caps at the same time using a Bob Roberts kit. Awesome that the monitor and the gameboard were working. You got a good deal there!

Yeah, you're lucky if you get one volt adjustment range with the pot.....ususlly around 4.50VDC (give or take) to around 5.50VDC (give or take).
